15 H3110 Then Johanan H1121 the son H7143 of Kareah H559 [H8804] spoke H1436 to Gedaliah H4709 in Mizpah H5643 secretly H559 [H8800] , saying H3212 [H8799] , Let me go H5221 [H8686] , I pray thee, and I will slay H3458 Ishmael H1121 the son H5418 of Nethaniah H376 , and no man H3045 [H8799] shall know H5221 H5315 [H8686] it: why should he slay H3064 thee, that all the Jews H6908 [H8737] who are gathered H6327 [H8738] to thee should be scattered H7611 , and the remnant H3063 of Judah H6 [H8804] perish?

16 H1436 But Gedaliah H1121 the son H296 of Ahikam H559 [H8799] said H3110 to Johanan H1121 the son H7143 of Kareah H6213 [H8799] , Thou shalt not do H1697 this thing H1696 [H8802] : for thou speakest H8267 falsely H3458 of Ishmael.

2 H6965 [H8799] Then arose H3458 Ishmael H1121 the son H5418 of Nethaniah H6235 , and the ten H582 men H5221 [H8686] that were with him, and smote H1436 Gedaliah H1121 the son H296 of Ahikam H1121 the son H8227 of Shaphan H2719 with the sword H4191 [H8686] , and slew H4428 him, whom the king H894 of Babylon H6485 [H8689] had made governor H776 over the land.

13 H5971 Now it came to pass, that when all the people H3458 who were with Ishmael H7200 [H8800] saw H3110 Johanan H1121 the son H7143 of Kareah H8269 , and all the captains H2428 of the forces H8055 [H8799] that were with him, then they were glad.

14 H5971 So all the people H3458 that Ishmael H7617 [H8804] had carried away captive H4709 from Mizpah H5437 [H8799] turned about H7725 [H8799] and came back H3212 [H8799] , and went H3110 to Johanan H1121 the son H7143 of Kareah.

15 H3458 But Ishmael H1121 the son H5418 of Nethaniah H4422 [H8738] escaped H6440 from H3110 Johanan H8083 with eight H582 men H3212 [H8799] , and went H1121 H5983 to the Ammonites.

16 H3110 Then Johanan H1121 the son H7143 of Kareah H8269 , and all the captains H2428 of the forces H3947 [H8799] that were with him, took H7611 all the remnant H5971 of the people H7725 [H8689] whom he had recovered H3458 from Ishmael H1121 the son H5418 of Nethaniah H4709 , from Mizpah H310 , after H5221 [H8689] that he had slain H1436 Gedaliah H1121 the son H296 of Ahikam H1397 , even mighty H582 men H4421 of war H802 , and the women H2945 , and the children H5631 , and the eunuchs H7725 [H8689] , whom he had brought again H1391 from Gibeon:
