Isaiah 37:1-38 And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD.

1 H1961 And it came H4428 to pass, when king H2396 Hezekiah H8085 heard H7167 it, that he rent H899 his clothes, H3680 and covered H8242 himself with sackcloth, H935 and went H1004 into the house H3068 of the LORD.

2 H7971 And he sent H471 Eliakim, H834 who H5921 was over H1004 the household, H7644 and Shebna H5608 the scribe, H2205 and the elders H3548 of the priests H3680 covered H8242 with sackcloth, H3470 to Isaiah H5030 the prophet H1121 the son H531 of Amoz.

3 H559 And they said H3541 to him, Thus H559 said H2396 Hezekiah, H2088 This H3117 day H3117 is a day H6869 of trouble, H8433 and of rebuke, H5007 and of blasphemy: H1121 for the children H935 are come H4866 to the birth, H3581 and there is not strength H3205 to bring H3205 forth.

4 H3068 It may be the LORD H430 your God H8085 will hear H1697 the words H7262 of Rabshakeh, H834 whom H4428 the king H804 of Assyria H113 his master H7971 has sent H2778 to reproach H2416 the living H430 God, H3198 and will reprove H1697 the words H834 which H3068 the LORD H430 your God H8085 has heard: H5375 why lift H8605 up your prayer H7611 for the remnant H4672 that is left.

5 H5650 So the servants H4428 of king H2396 Hezekiah H935 came H3470 to Isaiah.

6 H3470 And Isaiah H559 said H3541 to them, Thus H559 shall you say H113 to your master, H3541 Thus H559 said H3068 the LORD, H3372 Be not afraid H1697 of the words H8085 that you have heard, H834 with which H5288 the servants H4428 of the king H804 of Assyria H1442 have blasphemed me.

7 H2005 Behold, H7971 I will send H7307 a blast H8085 on him, and he shall hear H8052 a rumor, H7725 and return H776 to his own land; H5307 and I will cause him to fall H2719 by the sword H776 in his own land.

8 H7262 So Rabshakeh H7725 returned, H4672 and found H4428 the king H804 of Assyria H3898 warring H5921 against H3841 Libnah: H8085 for he had heard H5265 that he was departed H3923 from Lachish.

9 H8085 And he heard H559 say H5921 concerning H8640 Tirhakah H4428 king H3568 of Ethiopia, H3318 He is come H3318 forth H3898 to make war H8085 with you. And when he heard H7971 it, he sent H4397 messengers H2396 to Hezekiah, H559 saying,

10 H3541 Thus H559 shall you speak H2396 to Hezekiah H4428 king H3063 of Judah, H559 saying, H430 Let not your God, H834 in whom H982 you trust, H5377 deceive H559 you, saying, H3389 Jerusalem H5414 shall not be given H3027 into the hand H4428 of the king H804 of Assyria.

11 H2009 Behold, H8085 you have heard H834 what H4428 the kings H804 of Assyria H6213 have done H3605 to all H776 lands H2763 by destroying H5337 them utterly; and shall you be delivered?

12 H430 Have the gods H1471 of the nations H5337 delivered H834 them which H1 my fathers H7843 have destroyed, H1470 as Gozan, H2771 and Haran, H7530 and Rezeph, H1121 and the children H5731 of Eden H834 which H8515 were in Telassar?

13 H346 Where H4428 is the king H2574 of Hamath, H4428 and the king H774 of Arphad, H4428 and the king H5892 of the city H5617 of Sepharvaim, H2012 Hena, H5755 and Ivah?

14 H2396 And Hezekiah H3947 received H5612 the letter H3027 from the hand H4397 of the messengers, H7121 and read H2396 it: and Hezekiah H5927 went H1004 up to the house H3068 of the LORD, H6566 and spread H6440 it before H3068 the LORD.

15 H2396 And Hezekiah H6419 prayed H3068 to the LORD, H559 saying,

16 H3068 O LORD H6635 of hosts, H430 God H3478 of Israel, H3427 that dwell H3742 between the cherubim, H430 you are the God, H905 even you alone, H3605 of all H4467 the kingdoms H776 of the earth: H6213 you have made H8064 heaven H776 and earth.

17 H5186 Incline H241 your ear, H3068 O LORD, H8085 and hear; H6491 open H5869 your eyes, H3068 O LORD, H7200 and see: H8085 and hear H3605 all H1697 the words H5576 of Sennacherib, H834 which H7971 has sent H2778 to reproach H2416 the living H430 God.

18 H551 Of a truth, H3068 LORD, H4428 the kings H804 of Assyria H2717 have laid waste H3605 all H776 the nations, H776 and their countries,

19 H5414 And have cast H430 their gods H784 into the fire: H3808 for they were no H430 gods, H4639 but the work H120 of men’s H3027 hands, H6086 wood H68 and stone: H6 therefore they have destroyed them.

20 H6258 Now H3068 therefore, O LORD H430 our God, H3467 save H3027 us from his hand, H3605 that all H4467 the kingdoms H776 of the earth H3045 may know H3068 that you are the LORD, H905 even you only.

21 H3470 Then Isaiah H1121 the son H531 of Amoz H7971 sent H2396 to Hezekiah, H559 saying, H3541 Thus H559 said H3068 the LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel, H834 Whereas H6419 you have prayed H413 to me against H5576 Sennacherib H4428 king H804 of Assyria:

22 H2088 This H1697 is the word H834 which H3068 the LORD H1696 has spoken H5921 concerning H1330 him; The virgin, H1323 the daughter H6726 of Zion, H959 has despised H3932 you, and laughed H1323 you to scorn; the daughter H3389 of Jerusalem H5128 has shaken H7218 her head at you.

23 H853 Whom H4310 H2778 have you reproached H1442 and blasphemed? H5921 and against H4310 whom H7311 have you exalted H6963 your voice, H5375 and lifted H5869 up your eyes H4791 on high? H413 even against H6918 the Holy H3478 One of Israel.

24 H5650 By your servants H2778 have you reproached H136 the Lord, H559 and have said, H7230 By the multitude H7393 of my chariots H5927 am I come H4791 up to the height H2022 of the mountains, H3411 to the sides H3844 of Lebanon; H3772 and I will cut H6967 down the tall H730 cedars H4005 thereof, and the choice H1265 fir H935 trees thereof: and I will enter H4791 into the height H7093 of his border, H3293 and the forest H3760 of his Carmel.

25 H5365 I have dig, H8354 and drunk H4325 water; H3709 and with the sole H6471 of my feet H2717 have I dried H3605 up all H2975 the rivers H4693 of the besieged places.

26 H8085 Have you not heard H7350 long H7350 ago, H6213 how I have done H6924 it; and of ancient H3117 times, H3335 that I have formed H6258 it? now H935 have I brought H7582 it to pass, that you should be to lay waste H1219 defended H5892 cities H5327 into ruinous H1530 heaps.

27 H3427 Therefore their inhabitants H7116 were of small H3027 power, H2865 they were dismayed H954 and confounded: H6212 they were as the grass H7704 of the field, H3419 and as the green H1877 herb, H2682 as the grass H1406 on the housetops, H7709 and as corn blasted H6440 before H7054 it be grown up.

28 H3045 But I know H3427 your stayed, H3318 and your going H935 out, and your coming H7264 in, and your rage H413 against me.

29 H3282 Because H7264 your rage H413 against H7600 me, and your tumult, H5927 is come H241 up into my ears, H7760 therefore will I put H2397 my hook H639 in your nose, H4964 and my bridle H8193 in your lips, H7725 and I will turn H7725 you back H1870 by the way H834 by which H935 you came.

30 H2088 And this H226 shall be a sign H398 to you, You shall eat H8141 this year H5599 such as grows H8145 of itself; and the second H8141 year H7823 that which springs H7992 of the same: and in the third H8141 year H2232 sow H7114 you, and reap, H5193 and plant H3754 vineyards, H398 and eat H6529 the fruit thereof.

31 H7604 And the remnant H6413 that is escaped H1004 of the house H3063 of Judah H3254 shall again H8328 take root H4295 downward, H6213 and bear H6529 fruit H4605 upward:

32 H3389 For out of Jerusalem H3318 shall go H3318 forth H7611 a remnant, H6413 and they that escape H2022 out of mount H6726 Zion: H7068 the zeal H3068 of the LORD H6635 of hosts H6213 shall do H2063 this.

33 H3651 Therefore H3541 thus H559 said H3068 the LORD H413 concerning H4428 the king H804 of Assyria, H935 He shall not come H413 into H2063 this H5892 city, H3808 nor H2671 shoot an arrow H8033 there, H3808 nor H6923 come H6924 before H4043 it with shields, H3808 nor H8210 cast H5550 a bank H5921 against it.

34 H1870 By the way H935 that he came, H7725 by the same shall he return, H935 and shall not come H413 into H2063 this H5892 city, H5002 said H3068 the LORD.

35 H1598 For I will defend H2063 this H5892 city H3467 to save H5650 it for my own sake, and for my servant H1732 David’s H4616 sake.

36 H4397 Then the angel H3068 of the LORD H3318 went H3318 forth, H5221 and smote H4264 in the camp H804 of the Assyrians H3967 a hundred H8084 and fourscore H2568 and five H505 thousand: H7925 and when they arose H7925 early H1242 in the morning, H2009 behold, H3605 they were all H4191 dead H6297 corpses.

37 H5576 So Sennacherib H4428 king H804 of Assyria H5265 departed, H3212 and went H7725 and returned, H3427 and dwelled H5210 at Nineveh.

38 H1961 And it came H7812 to pass, as he was worshipping H1004 in the house H5268 of Nisroch H430 his god, H152 that Adrammelech H8272 and Sharezer H1121 his sons H5221 smote H2719 him with the sword; H4422 and they escaped H776 into the land H780 of Armenia: H634 and Esarhaddon H1121 his son H4427 reigned H8478 in his stead.
