Nehemiah 13 ביום day ההוא On that נקרא they read בספר in the book משׁה of Moses באזני in the audience העם of the people; ונמצא and therein was found כתוב written, בו אשׁר that לא should not יבוא come עמני the Ammonite ומאבי and the Moabite בקהל into the congregation האלהים of God עד forever; עולם׃ forever;

1 H3117 ביום day H1931 ההוא On that H7121 נקרא they read H5612 בספר in the book H4872 משׁה of Moses H241 באזני in the audience H5971 העם of the people; H4672 ונמצא and therein was found H3789 כתוב written, H834 בו אשׁר that H3808 לא should not H935 יבוא come H5984 עמני the Ammonite H4125 ומאבי and the Moabite H6951 בקהל into the congregation H430 האלהים of God H5704 עד forever; H5769 עולם׃ forever;

2 H3588 כי Because H3808 לא not H6923 קדמו they met H853 את H1121 בני the children H3478 ישׂראל of Israel H3899 בלחם with bread H4325 ובמים and with water, H7936 וישׂכר but hired H5921 עליו against H853 את H1109 בלעם Balaam H7043 לקללו them, that he should curse H2015 ויהפך turned H430 אלהינו them: howbeit our God H7045 הקללה the curse H1293 לברכה׃ into a blessing.

3 H1961 ויהי Now it came to pass, H8085 כשׁמעם when they had heard H853 את H8451 התורה the law, H914 ויבדילו that they separated H3605 כל all H6154 ערב the mixed multitude. H3478 מישׂראל׃

4 H6440 ולפני And before H2088 מזה this, H475 אלישׁיב Eliashib H3548 הכהן the priest, H5414 נתון having the oversight H3957 בלשׁכת of the chamber H1004 בית of the house H430 אלהינו of our God, H7138 קרוב allied H2900 לטוביה׃ unto Tobiah:

5 H6213 ויעשׂ And he had prepared H3957 לו לשׁכה chamber, H1419 גדולה for him a great H8033 ושׁם where H1961 היו formerly H6440 לפנים formerly H5414 נתנים they laid H853 את H4503 המנחה the meat offerings, H3828 הלבונה the frankincense, H3627 והכלים and the vessels, H4643 ומעשׂר and the tithes H1715 הדגן of the corn, H8492 התירושׁ the new wine, H3323 והיצהר and the oil, H4687 מצות which was commanded H3881 הלוים to the Levites, H7891 והמשׁררים and the singers, H7778 והשׁערים and the porters; H8641 ותרומת and the offerings H3548 הכהנים׃ of the priests.

6 H3605 ובכל But in all H2088 זה this H3808 לא not H1961 הייתי was H3389 בירושׁלם I at Jerusalem: H3588 כי for H8141 בשׁנת year H7970 שׁלשׁים and thirtieth H8147 ושׁתים in the two H783 לארתחשׁסתא of Artaxerxes H4428 מלך king H894 בבל of Babylon H935 באתי came H413 אל I unto H4428 המלך the king, H7093 ולקץ and after H3117 ימים certain days H7592 נשׁאלתי obtained I leave H4480 מן of H4428 המלך׃ the king:

7 H935 ואבוא And I came H3389 לירושׁלם to Jerusalem, H995 ואבינה and understood H7451 ברעה of the evil H834 אשׁר that H6213 עשׂה did H475 אלישׁיב Eliashib H2900 לטוביה for Tobiah, H6213 לעשׂות in preparing H5393 לו נשׁכה him a chamber H2691 בחצרי in the courts H1004 בית of the house H430 האלהים׃ of God.

8 H7489 וירע And it grieved H3966 לי מאד me sore: H7993 ואשׁליכה therefore I cast forth H853 את H3605 כל all H3627 כלי stuff H1004 בית the household H2900 טוביה of Tobiah H2351 החוץ out H4480 מן of H3957 הלשׁכה׃ the chamber.

9 H559 ואמרה Then I commanded, H2891 ויטהרו and they cleansed H3957 הלשׁכות the chambers: H7725 ואשׁיבה brought I again H8033 שׁם and thither H3627 כלי the vessels H1004 בית of the house H430 האלהים of God, H854 את with H4503 המנחה the meat offering H3828 והלבונה׃ and the frankincense.

10 H3045 ואדעה And I perceived H3588 כי that H4521 מניות the portions H3881 הלוים of the Levites H3808 לא had not H5414 נתנה been given H1272 ויברחו were fled H376 אישׁ every one H7704 לשׂדהו to his field. H3881 הלוים for the Levites H7891 והמשׁררים and the singers, H6213 עשׂי that did H4399 המלאכה׃ the work,

11 H7378 ואריבה Then contended H854 את I with H5461 הסגנים the rulers, H559 ואמרה and said, H4069 מדוע Why H5800 נעזב forsaken? H1004 בית is the house H430 האלהים of God H6908 ואקבצם And I gathered them together, H5975 ואעמדם and set H5921 על them in H5977 עמדם׃ their place.

12 H3605 וכל all H3063 יהודה Judah H935 הביאו Then brought H4643 מעשׂר the tithe H1715 הדגן of the corn H8492 והתירושׁ and the new wine H3323 והיצהר and the oil H214 לאוצרות׃ unto the treasuries.

13 H686 ואוצרה And I made treasurers H5921 על over H214 אוצרות the treasuries, H8018 שׁלמיה Shelemiah H3548 הכהן the priest, H6659 וצדוק and Zadok H5608 הסופר the scribe, H6305 ופדיה Pedaiah: H4480 מן and of H3881 הלוים the Levites, H5921 ועל and next to H3027 ידם and next to H2605 חנן them Hanan H1121 בן the son H2139 זכור of Zaccur, H1121 בן the son H4983 מתניה of Mattaniah: H3588 כי for H539 נאמנים faithful, H2803 נחשׁבו they were counted H5921 ועליהם and their office H2505 לחלק to distribute H251 לאחיהם׃ unto their brethren.

14 H2142 זכרה Remember H430 לי אלהי me, O my God, H5921 על concerning H2063 זאת this, H408 ואל and wipe not out H4229 תמח and wipe not out H2617 חסדי my good deeds H834 אשׁר that H6213 עשׂיתי I have done H1004 בבית for the house H430 אלהי of my God, H4929 ובמשׁמריו׃ and for the offices

15 H3117 בימים days H1992 ההמה In those H7200 ראיתי saw H3063 ביהודה I in Judah H1869 דרכים treading H1660 גתות wine presses H7676 בשׁבת on the sabbath, H935 ומביאים and bringing in H6194 הערמות sheaves, H6006 ועמסים and lading H5921 על and lading H2543 החמרים asses; H637 ואף as also H3196 יין wine, H6025 ענבים grapes, H8384 ותאנים and figs, H3605 וכל and all H4853 משׂא burdens, H935 ומביאים which they brought into H3389 ירושׁלם Jerusalem H3117 ביום day: H7676 השׁבת on the sabbath H5749 ואעיד and I testified H3117 ביום in the day H4376 מכרם wherein they sold H6718 ציד׃ victuals.

16 H6876 והצרים men of Tyre H3427 ישׁבו There dwelt H935 בה מביאים also therein, which brought H1709 דאג fish, H3605 וכל and all H4377 מכר manner of ware, H4376 ומכרים and sold H7676 בשׁבת on the sabbath H1121 לבני unto the children H3063 יהודה of Judah, H3389 ובירושׁלם׃ and in Jerusalem.

17 H7378 ואריבה Then I contended H854 את with H2715 חרי the nobles H3063 יהודה of Judah, H559 ואמרה and said H4100 להם מה unto them, What H1697 הדבר thing H7451 הרע evil H2088 הזה this H834 אשׁר that H859 אתם ye H6213 עשׂים do, H2490 ומחללים and profane H853 את H3117 יום day? H7676 השׁבת׃ the sabbath

18 H3808 הלוא not H3541 כה thus, H6213 עשׂו Did H1 אבתיכם your fathers H935 ויבא bring H430 אלהינו and did not our God H5921 עלינו upon H853 את H3605 כל all H7451 הרעה evil H2063 הזאת this H5921 ועל us, and upon H5892 העיר city? H2063 הזאת this H859 ואתם yet ye H935 מוסיפים H2740 חרון wrath H5921 על upon H3478 ישׂראל Israel H2490 לחלל by profaning H853 את H7676 השׁבת׃ the sabbath.

19 H1961 ויהי And it came to pass, H834 כאשׁר that when H6751 צללו began to be dark H8179 שׁערי the gates H3389 ירושׁלם of Jerusalem H6440 לפני before H7676 השׁבת the sabbath, H559 ואמרה I commanded H5462 ויסגרו should be shut, H1817 הדלתות that the gates H559 ואמרה and charged H834 אשׁר that H3808 לא they should not H6605 יפתחום be opened H5704 עד till H310 אחר after H7676 השׁבת the sabbath: H5288 ומנערי and of my servants H5975 העמדתי set H5921 על I at H8179 השׁערים the gates, H3808 לא there should no H935 יבוא be brought in H4853 משׂא burden H3117 ביום day. H7676 השׁבת׃ on the sabbath

20 H3885 וילינו lodged H7402 הרכלים So the merchants H4376 ומכרי and sellers H3605 כל of all H4465 ממכר kind of ware H2351 מחוץ without H3389 לירושׁלם Jerusalem H6471 פעם once H8147 ושׁתים׃ or twice.

21 H5749 ואעידה Then I testified H559 בהם ואמרה against them, and said H413 אליהם unto H4069 מדוע them, Why H859 אתם ye H3885 לנים lodge H5048 נגד about H2346 החומה the wall? H518 אם if H8138 תשׁנו ye do again, H3027 יד hands H7971 אשׁלח I will lay H4480 בכם מן on you. From H6256 העת time H1931 ההיא that H3808 לא they no H935 באו forth came H7676 בשׁבת׃ on the sabbath.

22 H559 ואמרה And I commanded H3881 ללוים the Levites H834 אשׁר that H1961 יהיו they should H2891 מטהרים cleanse themselves, H935 ובאים and they should come H8104 שׁמרים keep H8179 השׁערים the gates, H6942 לקדשׁ to sanctify H853 את H3117 יום day. H7676 השׁבת the sabbath H1571 גם also, H2063 זאת this H2142 זכרה Remember H430 לי אלהי me, O my God, H2347 וחוסה and spare H5921 עלי and spare H7230 כרב me according to the greatness H2617 חסדך׃ of thy mercy.

23 H1571 גם also H3117 בימים days H1992 ההם In those H7200 ראיתי saw H853 את H3064 היהודים I Jews H3427 השׁיבו had married H802 נשׁים wives H796 אשׁדודיות of Ashdod, H5984 עמוניות of Ammon, H4125 מואביות׃ of Moab:

24 H1121 ובניהם And their children H2677 חצי half H1696 מדבר spoke H797 אשׁדודית in the speech of Ashdod, H369 ואינם not H5234 מכירים and could H1696 לדבר speak H3066 יהודית in the Jews' language, H3956 וכלשׁון but according to the language H5971 עם of each H5971 ועם׃ people.

25 H7378 ואריב And I contended H5973 עמם with H7043 ואקללם them, and cursed H5221 ואכה them, and smote H1992 מהם H376 אנשׁים certain H4803 ואמרטם them, and plucked off their hair, H7650 ואשׁביעם and made them swear H430 באלהים by God, H518 אם Ye shall not H5414 תתנו give H1323 בנתיכם your daughters H1121 לבניהם unto their sons, H518 ואם nor H5375 תשׂאו take H1323 מבנתיהם their daughters H1121 לבניכם׃ unto your sons,

26 H3808 הלוא Did not H5921 על by H428 אלה these things? H2398 חטא sin H8010 שׁלמה Solomon H4428 מלך king H3478 ישׂראל of Israel H1471 ובגוים nations H7227 הרבים yet among many H3808 לא there no H1961 היה was H4428 מלך king H3644 כמהו like him, H157 ואהוב beloved H430 לאלהיו of his God, H1961 היה who was H5414 ויתנהו made H430 אלהים and God H4428 מלך him king H5921 על over H3605 כל all H3478 ישׂראל Israel: H1571 גם nevertheless H853 אותו H2398 החטיאו cause to sin. H802 הנשׁים women H5237 הנכריות׃ even him did outlandish

27 H8085 ולכם הנשׁמע Shall we then hearken H6213 לעשׂת unto you to do H853 את H3605 כל all H7451 הרעה evil, H1419 הגדולה great H2063 הזאת this H4603 למעל to transgress H430 באלהינו against our God H3427 להשׁיב in marrying H802 נשׁים wives? H5237 נכריות׃ strange

28 H1121 ומבני the son H3111 יוידע of Joiada, H1121 בן H475 אלישׁיב of Eliashib H3548 הכהן priest, H1419 הגדול the high H2860 חתן son in law H5571 לסנבלט to Sanballat H2772 החרני the Horonite: H1272 ואבריחהו therefore I chased H5921 מעלי׃ him from

29 H2142 זכרה Remember H1992 להם H430 אלהי them, O my God, H5921 על because H1352 גאלי they have defiled H3550 הכהנה the priesthood, H1285 וברית and the covenant H3550 הכהנה of the priesthood, H3881 והלוים׃ and of the Levites.

30 H2891 וטהרתים Thus cleansed H3605 מכל H5236 נכר strangers, H5975 ואעמידה and appointed H4931 משׁמרות the wards H3548 לכהנים of the priests H3881 וללוים and the Levites, H376 אישׁ every one H4399 במלאכתו׃ in his business;

31 H7133 ולקרבן offering, H6086 העצים And for the wood H6256 בעתים at times H2163 מזמנות appointed, H1061 ולבכורים and for the firstfruits. H2142 זכרה Remember H430 לי אלהי me, O my God, H2896 לטובה׃ for good.
