KJV_Strongs(i)
H1732 And it came to pass, when David H582 and his men H935 were come [H8800]   H6860 to Ziklag H7992 on the third H3117 day H6003 , that the Amalekites H6584 had invaded [H8804]   H5045 the south H6860 , and Ziklag H5221 , and smitten [H8686]   H6860 Ziklag H8313 , and burned [H8799]   H784 it with fire;
H802 And had taken the women H7617 captives [H8799]   H4191 , that were therein: they slew [H8689]   H376 not any H1419 , either great H6996 or small H5090 , but carried them away [H8799]   H3212 , and went [H8799]   H1870 on their way.
H1732 So David H582 and his men H935 came [H8799]   H5892 to the city H8313 , and, behold, it was burned [H8803]   H784 with fire H802 ; and their wives H1121 , and their sons H1323 , and their daughters H7617 , were taken captives [H8738]  .
H1732 Then David H5971 and the people H5375 that were with him lifted up [H8799]   H6963 their voice H1058 and wept [H8799]   H3581 , until they had no more power H1058 to weep [H8800]  .
H1732 And David's H8147 two H802 wives H7617 were taken captives [H8738]   H293 , Ahinoam H3159 the Jezreelitess H26 , and Abigail H802 the wife H5037 of Nabal H3761 the Carmelite.
H1732 And David H3966 was greatly H3334 distressed [H8799]   H5971 ; for the people H559 spake [H8804]   H5619 of stoning [H8800]   H5315 him, because the soul H5971 of all the people H4843 was grieved [H8804]   H376 , every man H1121 for his sons H1323 and for his daughters H1732 : but David H2388 encouraged [H8691]   H3068 himself in the LORD H430 his God.
H1732 And David H559 said [H8799]   H54 to Abiathar H3548 the priest H288 , Ahimelech's H1121 son H5066 , I pray thee, bring me hither [H8685]   H646 the ephod H54 . And Abiathar H5066 brought [H8686]   H646 thither the ephod H1732 to David.
H1732 And David H7592 enquired [H8799]   H3068 at the LORD H559 , saying [H8800]   H7291 , Shall I pursue [H8799]   H310 after H1416 this troop H5381 ? shall I overtake [H8686]   H559 them? And he answered [H8799]   H7291 him, Pursue [H8798]   H5381 : for thou shalt surely [H8687]   H5381 overtake [H8686]   H5337 them, and without fail [H8687]   H5337 recover [H8686]   all .
H1732 So David H3212 went [H8799]   H8337 , he and the six H3967 hundred H376 men H935 that were with him, and came [H8799]   H5158 to the brook H1308 Besor H3498 , where those that were left behind [H8737]   H5975 stayed [H8804]  .
H1732 But David H7291 pursued [H8799]   H702 , he and four H3967 hundred H376 men H3967 : for two hundred H5975 abode behind [H8799]   H6296 , which were so faint [H8765]   H5674 that they could not go over [H8800]   H5158 the brook H1308 Besor.
H4672 And they found [H8799]   H376 an Egyptian H4713   H7704 in the field H3947 , and brought [H8799]   H1732 him to David H5414 , and gave [H8799]   H3899 him bread H398 , and he did eat [H8799]   H8248 ; and they made him drink [H8686]   H4325 water;
H5414 And they gave [H8799]   H6400 him a piece H1690 of a cake H8147 of figs, and two H6778 clusters of raisins H398 : and when he had eaten [H8799]   H7307 , his spirit H7725 came again [H8799]   H398 to him: for he had eaten [H8804]   H3899 no bread H8354 , nor drunk [H8804]   H4325 any water H7969 , three H3117 days H7969 and three H3915 nights.
H1732 And David H559 said [H8799]   H559 unto him, To whom belongest thou? and whence art thou? And he said [H8799]   H5288 , I am a young man H4713 of Egypt H5650 , servant H376 to an Amalekite H6003   H113 ; and my master H5800 left [H8799]   H7969 me, because three H3117 days H2470 agone I fell sick [H8804]  .
H6584 We made an invasion [H8804]   H5045 upon the south H3774 of the Cherethites H3063 , and upon the coast which belongeth to Judah H5045 , and upon the south H3612 of Caleb H8313 ; and we burned [H8804]   H6860 Ziklag H784 with fire.
H1732 And David H559 said [H8799]   H3381 to him, Canst thou bring me down [H8686]   H1416 to this company H559 ? And he said [H8799]   H7650 , Swear [H8734]   H430 unto me by God H4191 , that thou wilt neither kill [H8686]   H518 me, nor H5462 deliver [H8686]   H3027 me into the hands H113 of my master H3381 , and I will bring thee down [H8686]   H1416 to this company.
H3381 And when he had brought him down [H8686]   H5203 , behold, they were spread abroad [H8803]   H6440 upon all H776 the earth H398 , eating [H8802]   H8354 and drinking [H8802]   H2287 , and dancing [H8802]   H1419 , because of all the great H7998 spoil H3947 that they had taken [H8804]   H776 out of the land H6430 of the Philistines H776 , and out of the land H3063 of Judah.
H1732 And David H5221 smote [H8686]   H5399 them from the twilight H6153 even unto the evening H4283 of the next day H4422 : and there escaped [H8738]   H376 not a man H702 of them, save four H3967 hundred H5288 young H376 men H7392 , which rode [H8804]   H1581 upon camels H5127 , and fled [H8799]  .
H1732 And David H5337 recovered [H8686]   H6002 all that the Amalekites H3947 had carried away [H8804]   H1732 : and David H5337 rescued [H8689]   H8147 his two H802 wives.
H5737 And there was nothing lacking [H8738]   H4480 to them, neither H6996 small H1419 nor great H1121 , neither sons H1323 nor daughters H7998 , neither spoil H3947 , nor any thing that they had taken [H8804]   H1732 to them: David H7725 recovered [H8689]   all.
H1732 And David H3947 took [H8799]   H6629 all the flocks H1241 and the herds H5090 , which they drave [H8804]   H6440 before H1931 those H4735 other cattle H559 , and said [H8799]   H1732 , This is David's H7998 spoil.
H1732 And David H935 came [H8799]   H3967 to the two hundred H582 men H6296 , which were so faint [H8765]   H3212 that they could not follow [H8800]   H310   H1732 David H3427 , whom they had made also to abide [H8686]   H5158 at the brook H1308 Besor H3318 : and they went forth [H8799]   H7125 to meet [H8800]   H1732 David H7125 , and to meet [H8800]   H5971 the people H1732 that were with him: and when David H5066 came near [H8799]   H5971 to the people H7592 , he saluted [H8799]   H7965   them.
H6030 Then answered [H8799]   H7451 all the wicked H376 men H1100 and men of Belial H582 , of those H1980 that went [H8804]   H1732 with David H559 , and said [H8799]   H1980 , Because they went [H8804]   H5414 not with us, we will not give [H8799]   H7998 them ought of the spoil H5337 that we have recovered [H8689]   H376 , save to every man H802 his wife H1121 and his children H5090 , that they may lead them away [H8799]   H3212 , and depart [H8799]  .
H559 Then said [H8799]   H1732 David H6213 , Ye shall not do so [H8799]   H251 , my brethren H3068 , with that which the LORD H5414 hath given [H8804]   H8104 us, who hath preserved [H8799]   H5414 us, and delivered [H8799]   H1416 the company H935 that came [H8802]   H3027 against us into our hand.
H8085 For who will hearken [H8799]   H1697 unto you in this matter H2506 ? but as his part H3381 is that goeth down [H8802]   [H8675]   H3381   [H8717]   H4421 to the battle H2506 , so shall his part H3427 be that tarrieth [H8802]   H3627 by the stuff H2505 : they shall part [H8799]   H3162 alike.
H3117 And it was so from that day H4605 forward H7760 , that he made [H8799]   H2706 it a statute H4941 and an ordinance H3478 for Israel H3117 unto this day.
H1732 And when David H935 came [H8799]   H6860 to Ziklag H7971 , he sent [H8762]   H7998 of the spoil H2205 unto the elders H3063 of Judah H7453 , even to his friends H559 , saying [H8800]   H1293 , Behold a present H7998 for you of the spoil H341 of the enemies [H8802]   H3068 of the LORD;
H834 To them H1008 which were in Bethel H5045 , and to them which were in south H7418 Ramoth H3492 , and to them which were in Jattir,
H6177 And to them which were in Aroer H8224 , and to them which were in Siphmoth H851 , and to them which were in Eshtemoa,
H7403 And to them which were in Rachal H5892 , and to them which were in the cities H3397 of the Jerahmeelites H5892 , and to them which were in the cities H7017 of the Kenites,
H2767 And to them which were in Hormah H3565 , and to them which were in Chorashan H6269 , and to them which were in Athach,
H2275 And to them which were in Hebron H4725 , and to all the places H1732 where David H582 himself and his men H1980 were wont to haunt [H8694]  .
ERV(i) 1 And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had made a raid upon the South, and upon Ziklag, and had smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire; 2 and had taken captive the women [and all] that were therein, both small and great: they slew not any, but carried them off, and went their way. 3 And when David and his men came to the city, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives. 4 Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep. 5 And David’s two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite. 6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David strengthened himself in the LORD his God. 7 And David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David. 8 And David inquired of the LORD, saying, If I pursue after this troop, shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake [them], and shalt without fail recover [all]. 9 So David went, he and the six hundred men that were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those that were left behind stayed. 10 But David pursued, he and four hundred men: for two hundred stayed behind, which were so faint that they could not go over the brook Besor: 11 And they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he did eat; and they gave him water to drink: 12 And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins; and when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him: for he had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three nights. 13 And David said unto him, To whom belongest thou? and whence art thou? And he said, I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite; and my master left me, because three days agone I fell sick. 14 We made a raid upon the South of the Cherethites, and upon that which belongeth to Judah, and upon the South of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire. 15 And David said to him, Wilt thou bring me down to this troop? And he said, Swear unto me by God, that thou wilt neither kill me, nor deliver me up into the hands of my master, and I will bring thee down to this troop. 16 And when he had brought him down, behold, they were spread abroad over all the ground, eating and drinking, and feasting, because of all the great spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah. 17 And David smote them from the twilight even unto the evening of the next day: and there escaped not a man of them save four hundred young men, which rode upon camels and fled. 18 And David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken: and David rescued his two wives. 19 And there was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor any thing that they had taken to them: David brought back all. 20 And David took all the flocks and the herds, [which] they drave before those [other] cattle, and said, This is David’s spoil. 21 And David came to the two hundred men, which were so faint that they could not follow David, whom also they had made to abide at the brook Besor: and they went forth to meet David, and to meet the people that were with him: and when David came near to the people, he saluted them. 22 Then answered all the wicked men and men of Belial, of those that went with David, and said, Because they went not with us, we will not give them aught of the spoil that we have recovered, save to every man his wife and his children, that they may lead them away and depart. 23 Then said David, Ye shall not do so, my brethren, with that which the LORD hath given unto us, who hath preserved us, and delivered the troop that came against us into our hand. 24 And who will hearken unto you in this matter? for as his share is that goeth down to the battle, so shall his share be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall share alike. 25 And it was so from that day forward, that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel, unto this day. 26 And when David came to Ziklag, he sent of the spoil unto the elders of Judah, even to his friends, saying, Behold a present for you of the spoil of the enemies of the LORD; 27 To them which were in Beth-el, and to them which were in Ramoth of the South, and to them which were in Jattir; 28 and to them which were in Aroer, and to them which were in Siphmoth, and to them which were in Eshtemoa; 29 and to them which were in Racal, and to them which were in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, and to them which were in the cities of the Kenites; 30 and to them which were in Hormah, and to them which were in Cor-ashan, and to them which were in Athach; 31 and to them which were in Hebron, and to all the places where David himself and his men were wont to haunt.
