Mark 5:1-20

VIN(i) 1 (5:1) AND they came across the lake to the country of the Gerasenes. 2 As soon as Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an unclean spirit came from the tombs and met Him. 3 He lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him any more, not even with a chain. 4 For he had often been bound with shackles and chains, but he wrenched the chains apart, and he broke the shackles in pieces. No one had the strength to subdue him. 5 Night and day in the tombs and in the mountains, he kept crying out and cutting himself with stones. 6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell down in front of him, 7 And he shouted in a loud voice, “What do You want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You before God not to torture me.” 8 For Jesus had said to him, Come out of the man, you unclean spirit. 9 and Jesus asked him, what is thy name? my name is legion, answered he: for we are many. 10 and he begged Jesus again and again not to send them away out of that country. 11 Now a large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. 12 So the demons begged him, "Send us among the pigs, so that we can go into them!" 13 So he gave them permission. And the foul spirits came out and went into the pigs, and the drove of about two thousand rushed over the steep bank into the sea, and were drowned. 14 Those tending the pigs ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened. 15 When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons sitting there, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 16 And those who had seen it told the people what had happened to the demon-possessed man, and about the swine. 17 And the people began to plead with Jesus to leave their region. 18 As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed kept begging him to let him go with him. 19 Jesus did not let him, but said, "Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you." 20 So the man went away and began to proclaim throughout the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And everyone was amazed.
