Mark 5:1-20

Matthew(i) 1 And they came ouer to the other syde of the sea into the countre of Gaderenites. 2 And when he was come oute of the shyppe, there met hym oute of the graues a man possessed of an vncleane spirite, 3 whiche had hys abydyng among the graues. And no man coulde bynde him: no not with chaynes, 4 because that when he was often bounde with fetters and chayns, he plucked the chayns a sunder, & brake the fetters in peces. Neyther coulde any man tame him. 5 And alwayes both nyght and daye he cryed in the mountaynes & in the graues, and bet hym self with stones. 6 When he had spyed Iesus a far of, he ranne & worshypped hym 7 and cryed with a loude voyce, and sayde: what haue I to do with a loude voyce, and sayde: what haue I to do with the Iesus the sonne of the most hyest God? I requyre the in the name of God that thou torment me not. 8 For he had sayde vnto hym: come out of the man thou foule spirite. 9 And he axed him: what is thy name. And he answered sayinge: my name is Legyon, for we are manye. 10 And he prayed hym instantly, that he woulde not sende them awaye out of the countre. 11 And there was there nye vnto the mountaynes a great herde of swyne fedyng, 12 and al the deuyls besought hym, saying: sende vs into the herde of swyne, that we may enter into them. 13 And anone Iesus gaue them leaue. And the vncleane spirites went out and entred into the swyne. And the herde startled, and ranne hedlynge into the sea. They were aboute two .M. swyne & they were drouned in the sea. 14 And the swyne herdes fleed, and tolde it in the cytye, and in the countre. And they came out for to se what had happened: 15 and came to Iesus, and sawe hym that was vexed with the fende, and had the legion syte, both clothed and in hys ryght mynde, & were afrayed, 16 And they that sawe it, tolde them how it had happened to him that was possessed with the deuyl: and also of the swyne. 17 And they beganne to praye hym, that he woulde departe from their coostes. 18 And when he was come into the shyppe, he that hadde the deuel, prayed hym that he might be with him. 19 How beit, Iesus woulde not suffer him, but sayde vnto him: go home into thine owne house and to thy frendes, and shewe them what greate thinges the Lord hath done vnto the, and how he had compassion on the. 20 And he departed, & began to publishe in the ten cyties what great thinges Iesus had done vnto him, and all men did meruayll.
