25 G2523 And they sat G1161   G2068 to eat G740 bread. G2532 And G308 looking up G3588 with the G3788 eyes G1492 they saw. Thomson(i) 18 Now when they saw him at a great distance before he came near them, they wickedly thought of killing him 19 and said one to another, Behold the dreamer is coming. 20 Now therefore come let us kill him and throw him into one of these pits, and we will say a savage beast hath devoured him. And let us see what will become of his dreams. 21 But when Reuben heard he rescued him out of their hands and said, Let us not touch his life. 22 Reuben indeed said to them, Shed not blood. Throw him into one of these pits in the wilderness, but lay not a hand on him, in order that he might rescue him out of their hands and deliver him to his father. 23 So when Joseph came to his brothers they stripped him of the variegated robe which he had on 24 and took him and threw him into the pit. But the pit was empty. It had no water. 25 Then they sat down to eat bread. And raising their eyes they looked; and lo! Ismaelite travellers were coming out of Galaad and their camels were loaded with spiceries, with balm and stacte, which they were carrying to Egypt. 26 Thereupon Judas said to his brothers, What advantage will it be though we slay our brother and conceal his blood? 27 Come let us sell him to these Ismaelites and let not our hands be upon him, for he is our brother and our flesh. So his brothers hearkened to him. 28 And when the Madienite merchants came, they drew him up. They lifted Joseph up out of the pit and sold him to the Ismaelites for twenty pieces of gold; and they carried Joseph down to Egypt.

23 So it came to pass, when Joseph had come in unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph of his tunic, the long tunic which was upon him, 24 and took him, and cast him into the pit,––but, the pit, was empty, there was in it, no water. 25 And, when they had sat down to eat bread, they lifted up their eyes, and looked, and lo! a caravan of Ishmaelites, coming in from Gilead,––and, their camels, were bearing tragacanth gum, and balsam and cistus–gum, they were going their way, to take them down to Egypt. 26 So Judah said unto his brethren,––What profit, that we slay our brother, and conceal his blood? 27 Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmaelites; but let not, our own hand, be upon him, for, our own brother, our own flesh, is he. And his brethren hearkened. 28 And there passed by certain Midianites, travelling merchants, so they drew forth and uplifted Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites, for twenty pieces of silver,––and they brought Joseph into Egypt.
CLV(i) 18 And seeing him are they from afar, and ere he is coming near to them. And plotting are they against him among themselves to put him to death. 19 And saying is each man to his brother, "Behold! This possessor of dreams is coming!" 20 And now go, and we will kill him and fling him into one of the cisterns and say, `An evil animal devoured him,' and see will we what will become of his dreams. 21 And hearing of it is Reuben, and rescuing him is he out of their hands. And saying is he, "Not smite will we his soul. 22 And saying to them is Reuben, "You must not shed blood. Fling him into this cistern which is in the wilderness, yet a hand you, you must not stretch out against him,--that he may rescue him from their hands, to restore him to his father. 23 And coming is it, as Joseph comes to his brothers, that they are stripping Joseph of his tunic, the distinctive tunic which is on him. 24 And taking him are they, and flinging him into the cistern. Yet the cistern was empty. No water was in it. 25 And sitting down are they to eat bread. And lifting are they their eyes and seeing, and behold! A caravan of Ishmaelites are coming from Gilead with their camels, bearing perfume and balm and labdanum, going by to go down to Egypt. 26 And saying is Judah to his brothers, "What gain is it that we kill our brother and cover his blood? 27 Go, and we will sell him to the Ishmaelites, and our hand must not come to be against him, for our brother and our flesh is he.And hearkening are his brothers. 28 And passing are mortals, Midianites, merchants. And drawing are they and bringing up Joseph from the cistern, and are selling Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty silverlings. And bringing are they Joseph to Egypt.
BBE(i) 18 But they saw him when he was a long way off, and before he came near them they made a secret design against him to put him to death; 19 Saying to one another, See, here comes this dreamer. 20 Let us now put him to death and put his body into one of these holes, and we will say, An evil beast has put him to death: then we will see what becomes of his dreams. 21 But Reuben, hearing these words, got him out of their hands, saying, Let us not take his life. 22 Do not put him to a violent death, but let him be placed in one of the holes; this he said to keep him safe from their hands, with the purpose of taking him back to his father again. 23 So when Joseph came to his brothers, they took off his long coat which he had on; 24 And they took him and put him in the hole: now the hole had no water in it. 25 Then seating themselves, they took their meal: and looking up, they saw a travelling band of Ishmaelites, coming from Gilead on their way to Egypt, with spices and perfumes on their camels. 26 And Judah said to his brothers, What profit is there in putting our brother to death and covering up his blood? 27 Let us give him to these Ishmaelites for a price, and let us not put violent hands on him, for he is our brother, our flesh. And his brothers gave ear to him. 28 And some traders from Midian went by; so pulling Joseph up out of the hole, they gave him to the Ishmaelites for twenty bits of silver, and they took him to Egypt.

Throw him into this pit in the wilderness, and lay no hand upon him (in order to rescue him out of their hands, to deliver him to his father again). 23 And it happened when Joseph had come to his brothers, they stripped Joseph out of his tunic, the tunic reaching to the soles of his feet that was on him. 24 And they took him and threw him into a pit. And the pit was empty, with no water in it. 25 And they sat down to eat bread. And they lifted up their eyes, and looked. For he is our brother, and our flesh. And his brothers listened. 28 And men, Midianites traders, came by. NSB(i) 18 Before he arrived, they saw him coming and made plans to kill him. 19 They said to one another: »Look, here comes the hero of those dreams! 20 »Let us kill him and throw him into a water pit. We can say that some wild animal ate him. Then we will see what happens to those dreams.« 21 Reuben heard this and tried to protect Joseph from them. »Let us not kill him,« he said. 22 »Do not murder him or even harm him. Just throw him into a dry well out here in the desert.« Reuben planned to rescue Joseph later and take him back to his father. 23 When Joseph came to his brothers, they pulled off his fancy coat. 24 They put him into a water pit. It had no water in it. 25 As they sat down to eat, they saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead. Their camels were carrying the materials for cosmetics, medicine, and embalming. They were on their way to take them to Egypt. 26 Judah asked his brothers: »What will we gain by killing our brother and covering up his death? 27 »Let us sell him to the Ishmaelites. Let us not hurt him, because he is our brother, our own flesh and blood.« His brothers agreed. 28 Some of the Midianite traders approached. The brothers pulled Joseph out of the well and sold him for twenty pieces of silver to the Ishmaelites. They took him to Egypt.
ISV(i) 18 Joseph’s Brothers Plot to Kill HimNow as soon as they saw him approaching from a distance, before he arrived they plotted together to kill him. 19 “Look!” they said. “Here comes the Dream Master! 20 Come on! Let’s kill him and toss him into one of the cisterns. Then we’ll report that some wild animal devoured him and wait to see what becomes of his dreams!”
21 When Reuben heard about it, he tried to save Joseph from their plot. “Let’s not do any killing,” 22 Reuben told them. “And no blood shedding, either. Instead, let’s toss him into this cistern that’s way out here in the wilderness. But don’t lay a hand on him.” (Reuben intended to free Joseph and return him to his father.)
23 Joseph is Sold into SlaveryAs it was, when Joseph arrived where his brothers were, they stripped off the tunic that Jacob had given him—that is, the richly-embroidered tunic that he was wearing. 24 They grabbed him and tossed him into the cistern, but the cistern was empty. (There was no water in it.) 25 After this, while they were seated, eating their food, they looked around and saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead with camels carrying spices, balm, and myrrh for sale down in Egypt.
26 Then Judah suggested to his brothers, “Where’s the profit in just killing our brother and shedding his blood? 27 Come on! Let’s sell him to the Ishmaelites! That way, we won’t have laid our hands on him. After all, he’s our brother, our own flesh.”
So Judah’s brothers listened to him. 28 As the Midianite merchants were passing through, they extracted Joseph from the cistern and sold Joseph for 20 pieces of silver to the Ishmaelites, who then took Joseph down to Egypt.
LEB(i) 18 And they saw him from a distance. And before he drew near to them, they conspired against him to kill him. 19 And each said to his brothers, "Look, this master of dreams is coming. 20 Now then, come, let us kill him and throw him in one of the pits. Then we will say a wild animal devoured him. Then we will see what his dreams become." 21 And Reuben heard it and delivered him from their hand and said, "We must not take his life." 22 And Reuben said to them, "You must not shed blood. Throw him into this pit that is in the desert, but do not lay a hand on him"—so that he might rescue him from their hand to return him to his father. 23 And it happened that as Joseph came to his brothers they stripped Joseph of his robe, the robe with long sleeves,* that was upon him. 24 And they took him and threw him into the pit (the pit was empty; there was no water in it). 25 Then they sat down to eat some food. And they lifted up their eyes and looked, and behold, a caravan of Ishmaelites was coming from Gilead. And their camels were carrying aromatic gum and balm and spices on the way* to Egypt. 26 Then Judah said to his brothers, "What profit is there if we kill our brother and conceal his blood? 27 Come, let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, but our hand shall not be against him, for he is our brother, our own flesh." And his brothers agreed. 28 Then Midianite traders passed by. And they* drew Joseph up and brought him up from the pit, and they sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. And they brought Joseph to Egypt.
BSB(i) 18 Now Joseph’s brothers saw him in the distance, and before he arrived, they plotted to kill him. 19 “Here comes that dreamer!” they said to one another. 20 “Come now, let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits. We can say that a vicious animal has devoured him. Then we shall see what becomes of his dreams!” 21 When Reuben heard this, he tried to rescue Joseph from their hands. “Let us not take his life,” he said. 22 “Do not shed his blood. Throw him into this pit in the wilderness, but do not lay a hand on him.” Reuben said this so that he could rescue Joseph from their hands and return him to his father. 23 So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe—the robe of many colors he was wearing— 24 and they took him and threw him into the pit. Now the pit was empty, with no water in it. 25 And as they sat down to eat a meal, they looked up and saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead. Their camels were carrying spices, balm, and myrrh on their way down to Egypt. 26 Then Judah said to his brothers, “What profit will we gain if we kill our brother and cover up his blood? 27 Come, let us sell him to the Ishmaelites and not lay a hand on him; for he is our brother, our own flesh.” And they agreed. 28 So when the Midianite traders passed by, his brothers pulled Joseph out of the pit and sold him for twenty shekels of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt.

22 H7971 Und H7205 Ruben H559 sprach H5337 zu ihnen: Vergießet nicht H1818 Blut H953 ; werfet ihn in diese Grube H4057 , die in der Wüste H7725 ist H3027 , und leget nicht Hand H8210 an ihn-auf daß er ihn aus H3027 ihrer Hand H7725 errettete, um ihn wieder H1 zu seinem Vater zu bringen.
  23 H853 Und H3130 es geschah, als Joseph H854 zu seinen H251 Brüdern H6584 kam, da zogen H3130 sie Joseph H935 seinen Leibrock aus, den langen Leibrock, den er anhatte;

I reče: "Nemojmo oduzimati njegova života!

24 A pochopivše, uvrhli jej do čisterny. Čisterna pak ta byla prázdná, v níž nebylo vody. 25 I usadili se, aby jedli chléb. A pozdvihše očí svých, uzřeli, a aj, množství Izmaelitských přicházejících z Galád, kteřížto na velbloudích svých nesli vonné věci a kadidlo a mirru do Egypta. 26 I řekl Juda bratřím svým: Jaký zisk míti budeme, zabijeme-li bratra svého, a zatajíme-li krve jeho? 27 Poďte, prodejme ho Izmaelitským, a nevztahujme na něj rukou svých, nebo bratr náš, tělo naše jest. I uposlechli ho bratří jeho. 28 Když pak mimo ně jeli muži ti, kupci Madianští, vytáhli a vyvedli Jozefa z té čisterny, a prodali jej Izmaelitským za dvadceti stříbrných. Ti zavedli Jozefa do Egypta.

25 Senjälkeen he istuivat aterioimaan.
