2 Chronicles 32 After these things, and this faithfulness, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fortified cities, and thought to win them for himself.

1 H310 After H1697 these things, H571 and this faithfulness, H5576 Sennacherib H4428 king H804 of Assyria H935 came, H935 and entered H3063 into Judah, H2583 and encamped H1219 against the fortified H5892 cities, H559 and thought H1234 to win them for himself.

2 H3169 And when Hezekiah H7200 saw H5576 that Sennacherib H935 was come, H6440 and that he was purposed H4421 to fight H3389 against Jerusalem,

3 H3289 he took counsel H8269 with his princes H1368 and his mighty men H5640 to stop H4325 the waters H5869 of the fountains H2351 which were without H5892 the city; H5826 and they helped him.

4 H6908 So there was gathered H7227 much H5971 people H6908 together, H5640 and they stopped H4599 all the fountains, H5158 and the brook H7857 that flowed H8432 through the midst H776 of the land, H559 saying, H4428 Why should the kings H804 of Assyria H935 come, H4672 and find H7227 much H4325 water?

5 H2388 And he took courage, H1129 and built up H2346 all the wall H6555 that was broken H5927 down, and raised it up H4026 to the towers, H312 and the other H2346 wall H2351 without, H2388 and strengthened H4407 Millo H5892 in the city H1732 of David, H6213 and made H7973 weapons H4043 and shields H7230 in abundance.

6 H5414 And he set H8269 captains H4421 of war H5971 over the people, H6908 and gathered them together H7339 to him in the broad H8179 place at the gate H5892 of the city, H1696 and spake H3824 comfortably H559 to them, saying,

7 H2388 Be strong H553 and of good courage, H3372 be not afraid H2865 nor dismayed H6440 for H4428 the king H804 of Assyria, H1995 nor for all the multitude H7227 that is with him; for there is a greater with us than with him:

8 H2220 with him is an arm H1320 of flesh; H3068 but with us is Jehovah H430 our God H5826 to help H3898 us, and to fight H4421 our battles. H5971 And the people H5564 rested H1697 themselves upon the words H3169 of Hezekiah H4428 king H3063 of Judah.

9 H310 After H5576 this did Sennacherib H4428 king H804 of Assyria H7971 send H5650 his servants H3389 to Jerusalem, H3923 (now he was before Lachish, H4475 and all his power H3169 with him,) unto Hezekiah H4428 king H3063 of Judah, H3063 and unto all Judah H3389 that were at Jerusalem, H559 saying,

10 H559 Thus saith H5576 Sennacherib H4428 king H804 of Assyria, H982 Whereon do ye trust, H3427 that ye abide H4692 the siege H3389 in Jerusalem?

11 H3169 Doth not Hezekiah H5496 persuade H5414 you, to give H4191 you over to die H7458 by famine H6772 and by thirst, H559 saying, H3068 Jehovah H430 our God H5337 will deliver H3709 us out of the hand H4428 of the king H804 of Assyria?

12 H3169 Hath not the same Hezekiah H5493 taken away H1116 his high places H4196 and his altars, H559 and commanded H3063 Judah H3389 and Jerusalem, H559 saying, H7812 Ye shall worship H6440 before H259 one H4196 altar, H6999 and upon it shall ye burn incense?

13 H3045 Know H1 ye not what I and my fathers H6213 have done H5971 unto all the peoples H776 of the lands? H430 Were the gods H1471 of the nations H776 of the lands H3201 in any wise H3201 able H5337 to deliver H776 their land H3027 out of my hand?

14 H430 Who was there among all the gods H1471 of those nations H1 which my fathers H2763 utterly destroyed, H3201 that could H5337 deliver H5971 his people H3027 out of my hand, H430 that your God H3201 should be able H5337 to deliver H3027 you out of my hand?

15 H3808 Now therefore let not H2396 Hezekiah H5377 deceive H5496 you, nor persuade H539 you after this manner, neither believe H433 ye him; for no god H1471 of any nation H4467 or kingdom H3201 was able H5337 to deliver H5971 his people H3027 out of my hand, H3027 and out of the hand H1 of my fathers: H430 how much less shall your God H5337 deliver H3027 you out of my hand?

16 H5650 And his servants H1696 spake H3068 yet more against Jehovah H430 God, H5650 and against his servant H3169 Hezekiah.

17 H3789 He wrote H5612 also letters, H2778 to rail H3068 on Jehovah, H430 the God H3478 of Israel, H559 and to speak H559 against him, saying, H430 As the gods H1471 of the nations H776 of the lands, H5337 which have not delivered H5971 their people H3027 out of my hand, H430 so shall not the God H3169 of Hezekiah H5337 deliver H5971 his people H3027 out of my hand.

18 H7121 And they cried H1419 with a loud H6963 voice H3066 in the Jews' language H5971 unto the people H3389 of Jerusalem H2346 that were on the wall, H3372 to affright H926 them, and to trouble H3920 them; that they might take H5892 the city.

19 H1696 And they spake H5921 of H430 the God H3389 of Jerusalem, H430 as of the gods H5971 of the peoples H776 of the earth, H4639 which are the work H120 of men's H3027 hands.

20 H3169 And Hezekiah H4428 the king, H3470 and Isaiah H5030 the prophet H1121 the son H531 of Amoz, H6419 prayed H2199 because of this, and cried H8064 to heaven.

21 H3068 And Jehovah H7971 sent H4397 an angel, H3582 who cut off H1368 all the mighty men H2428 of valor, H5057 and the leaders H8269 and captains, H4264 in the camp H4428 of the king H804 of Assyria. H7725 So he returned H1322 with shame H6440 of face H776 to his own land. H935 And when he was come H1004 into the house H430 of his god, H3329 they that came forth H4578 from his own bowels H5307 slew H2719 him there with the sword.

22 H3068 Thus Jehovah H3467 saved H3169 Hezekiah H3427 and the inhabitants H3389 of Jerusalem H3027 from the hand H5576 of Sennacherib H4428 the king H804 of Assyria, H3027 and from the hand H5095 of all others, and guided H5439 them on every side.

23 H7227 And many H935 brought H4503 gifts H3068 unto Jehovah H3389 to Jerusalem, H4030 and precious H3169 things to Hezekiah H4428 king H3063 of Judah; H5375 so that he was exalted H5869 in the sight H1471 of all nations H310 from thenceforth.

24 H3117 In those days H3169 Hezekiah H2470 was sick H4191 even unto death: H6419 and he prayed H3068 unto Jehovah; H559 and he spake H5414 unto him, and gave H4159 him a sign.

25 H3169 But Hezekiah H7725 rendered not again H1576 according to the benefit H3820 done unto him; for his heart H1361 was lifted up: H7110 therefore there was wrath H3063 upon him, and upon Judah H3389 and Jerusalem.

26 H3169 Notwithstanding Hezekiah H3665 humbled H1363 himself for the pride H3820 of his heart, H3427 both he and the inhabitants H3389 of Jerusalem, H7110 so that the wrath H3068 of Jehovah H935 came H3117 not upon them in the days H3169 of Hezekiah.

27 H3169 And Hezekiah H3966 had exceeding H7235 much H6239 riches H3519 and honor: H6213 and he provided H214 him treasuries H3701 for silver, H2091 and for gold, H3368 and for precious H68 stones, H1314 and for spices, H4043 and for shields, H2532 and for all manner of goodly H3627 vessels;

28 H4543 store-houses H8393 also for the increase H1715 of grain H8492 and new wine H3323 and oil; H723 and stalls H929 for all manner of beasts, H5739 and flocks H220 in folds.

29 H6213 Moreover he provided H5892 him cities, H4735 and possessions H6629 of flocks H1241 and herds H7230 in abundance; H430 for God H5414 had given H3966 him very H7227 much H7399 substance.

30 H3169 This same Hezekiah H5640 also stopped H5945 the upper H4161 spring H1521 of the waters of Gihon, H3474 and brought them straight H4295 down H4628 on the west side H5892 of the city H1732 of David. H3169 And Hezekiah H6743 prospered H4639 in all his works.

31 H3651 Howbeit H3887 in the business of the ambassadors H8269 of the princes H894 of Babylon, H7971 who sent H1875 unto him to inquire H4159 of the wonder H776 that was done in the land, H430 God H5800 left H5254 him, to try H3045 him, that he might know H3824 all that was in his heart.

32 H3499 Now the rest H1697 of the acts H3169 of Hezekiah, H2617 and his good H3789 deeds, behold, they are written H2377 in the vision H3470 of Isaiah H5030 the prophet H1121 the son H531 of Amoz, H5612 in the book H4428 of the kings H3063 of Judah H3478 and Israel.

33 H3169 And Hezekiah H7901 slept H1 with his fathers, H6912 and they buried H4608 him in the ascent H6913 of the sepulchres H1121 of the sons H1732 of David: H3063 and all Judah H3427 and the inhabitants H3389 of Jerusalem H6213 did him H3519 honor H4194 at his death. H4519 And Manasseh H1121 his son H4427 reigned in his stead.
