40 H559 [H8799] Then said H3478 he to all Israel, H259 Be ye on one H5676 side, H3129 and I and Jonathan H1121 my son H259 will be on the other H5676 side. H5971 And the people H559 [H8799] said H7586 to Saul, H6213 [H8798] Do H5869 what seemeth H2896 good to thee.
  41 H7586 Therefore Saul H559 [H8799] said H3068 to the LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel, H3051 [H8798] Give H8549 a perfect H7586 lot. And Saul H3129 and Jonathan H3920 [H8735] were taken: H5971 but the people H3318 [H8804] escaped.
  42 H7586 And Saul H559 [H8799] said, H5307 [H8685] Cast H3129 lots between me and Jonathan H1121 my son. H3129 And Jonathan H3920 [H8735] was taken.
  43 H7586 Then Saul H559 [H8799] said H3129 to Jonathan, H5046 [H8685] Tell H6213 [H8804] me what thou hast done. H3129 And Jonathan H5046 [H8686] told H559 [H8799] him, and said, H2938 [H8800] I did but H2938 [H8804] taste H4592 a little H1706 honey H7097 with the end H4294 of the rod H3027 that was in my hand, H2009 and, lo, H4191 [H8799] I must die.
  44 H7586 And Saul H559 [H8799] answered, H430 God H6213 [H8799] do so H3254 [H8686] and more also: H4191 [H8800] for thou shalt surely H4191 [H8799] die, H3129 Jonathan.
45 H5971 And the people H559 [H8799] said H7586 to Saul, H3129 Shall Jonathan H4191 [H8799] die, H6213 [H8804] who hath wrought H1419 this great H3444 salvation H3478 in Israel? H2486 By no means: H3068 as the LORD H2416 liveth, H8185 there shall not one hair H7218 of his head H5307 [H8799] fall H776 to the earth; H6213 [H8804] for he hath wrought H430 with God H3117 this day. H5971 So the people H6299 [H8799] ransomed H3129 Jonathan, H4191 [H8804] that he died not.

But there was not one of the people who answered. 40 Then he said to all the men of Israel, You shall be one lot, and I and my son Jonathan shall be the other lot. And the people said to Saul, Do what seemeth good in thy sight. 41 Then Saul said, Lord the God of Israel, why hast thou not answered thy servant this day? If the fault be in me, or in Jonathan my son, Lord God of Israel make us manifest. And when he said these words, Give I beseech thee to thy people Israel, Give I beseech thee Sanctity, the lot fell on Jonathan and Saul; and the people escaped. 42 Then Saul said, Cast the lot between me, and Jonathan my son, and against whomsoever the Lord shall decide by lot, let him be put to death. Because the people of God had that day performed exploits, therefore the people prayed for Jonathan that day, and he did not die.

  43 H7586 Then Saul H559 [H8799] said H3129 to Jonathan H5046 [H8685] , Tell H6213 [H8804] me what thou hast done H3129 . And Jonathan H5046 [H8686] told H559 [H8799] him, and said H2938 [H8800] , I did but H2938 [H8804] taste H4592 a little H1706 honey H7097 with the end H4294 of the rod H3027 that was in my hand H2009 , and, lo H4191 [H8799] , I must die.
  44 H7586 And Saul H559 [H8799] answered H430 , God H6213 [H8799] do so H3254 [H8686] and more also H4191 [H8800] : for thou shalt surely H4191 [H8799] die H3129 , Jonathan.
  45 H5971 And the people H559 [H8799] said H7586 to Saul H3129 , Shall Jonathan H4191 [H8799] die H6213 [H8804] , who hath wrought H1419 this great H3444 salvation H3478 in Israel H2486 ? By no means H3068 : as the LORD H2416 liveth H8185 , there shall not one hair H7218 of his head H5307 [H8799] fall H776 to the ground H6213 [H8804] ; for he hath wrought H430 with God H3117 this day H5971 . So the people H6299 [H8799] rescued H3129 Jonathan H4191 [H8804] , that he died not.
Brenton(i) 38 And Saul said, Bring hither all the chiefs of Israel, and know and see by whom this sin has been committed this day. 39 For as the Lord lives who has saved Israel, if answer should be against my son Jonathan, he shall surely die. And there was no one that answered out of all the people. 40 And he said to all the men of Israel, Ye shall be under subjection, and I an Jonathan my son will be under subjection: and the people said to Saul, Do that which is good in thy sight. 41 And Saul said, O Lord God of Israel, why hast thou not answered thy servant this day? is the iniquity in me, or in Jonathan my son? Lord God of Israel, give clear manifestations; and if the lot should declare this, give, I pray thee, to thy people of Israel, give, I pray, holiness. And Jonathan and Saul are taken, and the people escaped. 42 And Saul said, Cast lots between me and my son Jonathan: whomsoever the Lord shall cause to be taken by lot, let him die: and the people said to Saul, This thing is not to be done: and Saul prevailed against the people, and they cast lots between him and Jonathan his son, and Jonathan is taken by lot. 43 And Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast done: and Jonathan told him, and said, I did indeed taste a little honey, with the end of my staff that was in my hand, and, lo! I am to die. 44 And Saul said to him, God do so to me, and more also, thou shalt surely die to-day. 45 And the people said to Saul, Shall he that has wrought this great salvation in Israel be put to death this day? As the Lord lives, there shall not fall to the ground one of the hairs of his head; for the people of God have wrought successfully this day. And the people prayed for Jonathan in that day, and he died not.

40 H559 Then he said H3478 to all Israel, H259 "You be on one H5676 side, H3129 and I and Jonathan H1121 my son H259 will be on the other H5676 side." H5971 The people H559 said H7586 to Saul, H6213 "Do H5869 what seems H2896 good to you."
41 H7586 Therefore Saul H559 said H3068 to Yahweh, H430 the God H3478 of Israel, H3051 "Show H8549 the right." H3129 Jonathan H7586 and Saul H3920 were chosen; H5971 but the people H3318 escaped.
42 H7586 Saul H559 said, H5307 "Cast H3129 lots between me and Jonathan H1121 my son." H3129 Jonathan H3920 was selected.
43 H7586 Then Saul H559 said H3129 to Jonathan, H5046 "Tell H6213 me what you have done!" H3129 Jonathan H5046 told H5046 him, and said, H2938 "I certainly H2938 did taste H4592 a little H1706 honey H7097 with the end H4294 of the rod H3027 that was in my hand; H2009 and behold, H4191 I must die."
44 H7586 Saul H559 said, H430 "God H6213 do so H3254 and more also; H4191 for you shall surely H4191 die, H3129 Jonathan."
45 H5971 The people H559 said H7586 to Saul, H3129 "Shall Jonathan H4191 die, H6213 who has worked H1419 this great H3444 salvation H3478 in Israel? H2486 Far H3068 from it! As Yahweh H2416 lives, H8185 there shall not one hair H7218 of his head H5307 fall H776 to the ground; H6213 for he has worked H430 with God H3117 this day!" H5971 So the people H6299 rescued H3129 Jonathan, H4191 that he didn't die.
NHEB(i) 38 And Saul said, "Come here, all you leaders of the people; and investigate and see how this sin has arisen today. 39 For, as the LORD lives, who saves Israel, though it is in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die." But there was not a man among all the people who answered him. 40 Then he said to all Israel, "You be on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side." The people said to Saul, "Do what seems good to you." 41 Therefore Saul said, "LORD, God of Israel, why have you not answered your servant this day? If this sin is mine or in Jonathan my son, LORD, God of Israel, give Urim. But if this sin is in your people Israel, give Thummim." And Jonathan and Saul were chosen, but the people were cleared. 42 And Saul said, "Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son. Whomever the LORD shall indicate to be taken by lot, let him die." And the people said to Saul, "This thing is not to be." And Saul prevailed over the people, and they cast lots between him and Jonathan his son. And Jonathan was selected. 43 Then Saul said to Jonathan, "Tell me what you have done." And Jonathan told him, and said, "I certainly did taste a little honey with the end of the staff that was in my hand; and look, I must die." 44 Saul said, "God do so and more also; for you shall surely die, Jonathan." 45 The people said to Saul, "Shall Jonathan die, who has worked this great salvation in Israel? Far from it. As the LORD lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he has worked with God this day." So the people rescued Jonathan, and he did not die.
AKJV(i) 38 And Saul said, Draw you near here, all the chief of the people: and know and see wherein this sin has been this day. 39 For, as the LORD lives, which saves Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. And Saul and Jonathan were taken: but the people escaped. 42 And Saul said, Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken. 43 Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what you have done. And Jonathan told him, and said, I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in my hand, and, see, I must die. 44 And Saul answered, God do so and more also: for you shall surely die, Jonathan. 45 And the people said to Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who has worked this great salvation in Israel? No, in no wise: as the LORD lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground, for he has wrought with God this day. So the people rescued {Heb. ransomed} Jonathan that he did not die.
CAB(i) 38 And Saul said, Bring here all the chiefs of Israel, and know and see by whom this sin has been committed this day. 39 For as the Lord lives who has saved Israel, if the answer should be against my son Jonathan, he shall surely die. Is the iniquity in me, or in Jonathan my son? Lord God of Israel, give clear manifestations, and if the lot should declare this, give holiness, I pray, to Your people of Israel. And Jonathan and Saul were taken, and the people escaped. 42 And Saul said, Cast lots between me and my son Jonathan: whomever the Lord shall cause to be taken by lot, let him die. As the Lord lives, there shall not fall to the ground one of the hairs of his head; for the people of God have done good this day. And the people prayed for Jonathan in that day, and he died not.
LXX2012(i) 38 And Saul said, Bring hither all the chiefs of Israel, and know and see by whom this sin has been committed this day. 39 For as the Lord lives who has saved Israel, if answer should be against my son Jonathan, he shall surely die. And there was no one that answered out of all the people. 40 And he said to all the men of Israel, You⌃ shall be under subjection, and I an Jonathan my son will be under subjection: and the people said to Saul, Do that which is good in your sight. 41 And Saul said, O Lord God of Israel, why have you not answered your servant this day? And the people prayed for Jonathan in that day, and he died not.
NSB(i) 38 Saul called his army officers together and said: »We have to find out what sin has kept God from answering. 39 »I promise by the living Jehovah, who gives Israel victory, that the guilty one will be put to death, even if he is my son Jonathan.« But no one said anything. 40 Then Saul said to them: »All of you stand over there. Jonathan and I will stand over here.« »Do whatever you think best,« they answered. 41 Saul said to Jehovah the God of Israel, give a perfect lot. Jonathan and Samuel were taken, but the people escaped. 42 Then Saul said: »Cast lots to decide between my son Jonathan and me.« And Jonathan was indicated. 43 Then Saul asked Jonathan: »What have you done?« Jonathan answered: »I ate a little honey with the stick I was holding. Here I am. I am ready to die.« 44 Saul said: »May God strike me dead if you are not put to death!« 45 But the people said to Saul: »Will Jonathan, who won this great victory for Israel, be put to death?« »No! We promise by the living Jehovah that he will not lose even a hair from his head. What he did today was done with God’s help.« So the people saved Jonathan from being put to death.
ISV(i) 38 Saul said, “All you army officers are to come here to find out what constitutes this sin today. 39 Indeed, as the LORD who delivers Israel lives, even if the sin is with my son Jonathan, he will surely die!” Not a single one of the soldiers answered him. 40 Then he told all Israel, “You will be on one side, and I and my son Jonathan will be on the other side.”
The people told Saul, “Do what seems good to you.”
41 Then Saul told the LORD God of Israel, “Judge us properly.” Jonathan and Saul were selected, but the army was cleared. 42 Saul said, “Cast lots between me and my son Jonathan,” and Jonathan was selected. 43 Saul told Jonathan, “Tell me what you’ve done.”
So Jonathan spoke to him: “I did taste a little honey from the end of the staff that was in my hand. Here I am; I’m ready to die!”
44 Saul said, “May God do this to me and even more, if you don’t surely die, Jonathan!”
45 Then the army told Saul, “Shall Jonathan die, who brought about this great deliverance in Israel? As the LORD lives, not one hair of his head will fall to the ground, because today he did this with God’s help.”
LEB(i) 38 Then Saul said, "Come here, all you leaders of the people, so that we find out* what the sin was this day. 39 For as Yahweh lives, who delivers Israel, I swear that even if it is in Jonathan my son, he will certainly die!"* But nobody from all the army answered him. 40 Then he said to all Israel, "You will be on one side,* and I and my son Jonathan will be on the other."* And the army said to Saul, "Do what is good in your eyes." 41 Then Saul said to Yahweh the God of Israel, "Render a decision perfectly."* Jonathan and Saul were chosen by lot and the people went out. 42 Then Saul said, "Let them cast the lot between me and my son Jonathan," and Jonathan was chosen. 43 So Saul said, "Tell me what you have done." So Jonathan told him and said, "I merely tasted* a little honey with the end of the staff that was in my hand. Far from it! As Yahweh lives, not a hair from his head will fall to the ground, for he has worked with God this day." So the army ransomed Jonathan and he did not die.
BSB(i) 38 Therefore Saul said, “Come here, all you leaders of the troops, and let us investigate how this sin has occurred today. 39 As surely as the LORD who saves Israel lives, even if it is my son Jonathan, he must die!” But not one of the troops said a word. 40 Then Saul said to all Israel, “You stand on one side, and I and my son Jonathan will stand on the other side.” “Do what seems good to you,” the troops replied. 41 So Saul said to the LORD, the God of Israel, “Why have You not answered Your servant this day? If the fault is with me or my son Jonathan, respond with Urim; but if the fault is with the men of Israel, respond with Thummim.” And Jonathan and Saul were selected, but the people were cleared of the charge. 42 Then Saul said, “Cast the lot between me and my son Jonathan.” And Jonathan was selected. 43 “Tell me what you have done,” Saul commanded him. So Jonathan told him, “I only tasted a little honey with the end of the staff that was in my hand. And now I must die?” 44 And Saul declared, “May God punish me, and ever so severely, if you, Jonathan, do not surely die!” 45 But the people said to Saul, “Must Jonathan die—he who accomplished such a great deliverance for Israel? Never! As surely as the LORD lives, not a hair of his head will fall to the ground, for with God’s help he has accomplished this today.” So the people rescued Jonathan, and he did not die.

43 Entonces Saúl dijo a Jonatán: Declárame qué has hecho.

Croatian(i) 38 Zato Šaul reče: "Pristupite ovamo, svi narodni glavari!
BKR(i) 38 Protož řekl Saul: Přistupujte sem všecka knížata lidu, a vyzvězte a vyhledejte, kdo se jest dopustil dnes hříchu nějakého?

42 Tiam Saul diris:Lotu inter mi kaj mia filo Jonatan. Kaj trafita estis Jonatan.

Men mwen! Mwen pare pou m' mouri. 44 Sayil di li: -Se pou Bondye ban m' pi gwo pinisyon ki genyen si mwen pa fè yo touye ou. 45 Men pèp la di Sayil konsa: -Se Jonatan ki te genyen bèl batay sa a pou pèp Izrayèl la, li pa ka mouri. Mande Bondye padon! Nou fè sèman devan Seyè ki vivan an, nou p'ap kite yon grenn cheve nan tèt li tonbe, paske se avèk lasistans Bondye li fè sa l' fè jòdi a. Se konsa moun yo enpoze yo touye Jonatan.
42 Poi Saulle disse: Traete la sorte fra me a Gionatan, mio figliuolo. E Gionatan fu preso.
42 Poi Saul disse: "Tirate a sorte fra me e Gionathan mio figliuolo". E Gionathan fu designato.

43 Zatem rzekł Saul do Jonatana: Powiedz mi, coś uczynił?
43 Disse então Saul a Jónatas: Declara-me o que fizeste.
