H8147 Now in the twelfth H6240   H2320 month H2320 , that is, the month H143 Adar H7969 , on the thirteenth H6240   H3117 day H4428 of the same, when the king's H1697 commandment H1881 and his decree H5060 drew near [H8689]   H6213 to be put in execution [H8736]   H3117 , in the day H341 that the enemies [H8802]   H3064 of the Jews H7663 hoped [H8765]   H7980 to have power [H8800]   H2015 over them, (though it was turned [H8736]   H3064 to the contrary, that the Jews H7980 had rule [H8799]   H8130 over them that hated [H8802]   them;)
H3064 The Jews H6950 gathered themselves together [H8738]   H5892 in their cities H4082 throughout all the provinces H4428 of the king H325 Ahasuerus H7971 , to lay [H8800]   H3027 hand H1245 on such as sought [H8764]   H7451 their hurt H376 : and no man H5975 could withstand [H8804]   H6440 them H6343 ; for the fear H5307 of them fell [H8804]   H5971 upon all people.
H8269 And all the rulers H4082 of the provinces H323 , and the lieutenants H6346 , and the deputies H6213 , and officers [H8802]   H4399   H4428 of the king H5375 , helped [H8764]   H3064 the Jews H6343 ; because the fear H4782 of Mordecai H5307 fell [H8804]   upon them.
H4782 For Mordecai H1419 was great H4428 in the king's H1004 house H8089 , and his fame H1980 went out [H8802]   H4082 throughout all the provinces H376 : for this man H4782 Mordecai H1980 waxed [H8802]   H1419 greater and greater.
H3064 Thus the Jews H5221 smote [H8686]   H341 all their enemies [H8802]   H4347 with the stroke H2719 of the sword H2027 , and slaughter H12 , and destruction H6213 , and did [H8799]   H7522 what they would H8130 unto those that hated [H8802]   them.
H7800 And in Shushan H1002 the palace H3064 the Jews H2026 slew [H8804]   H6 and destroyed [H8763]   H2568 five H3967 hundred H376 men.
H6577 And Parshandatha H1813 , and Dalphon H630 , and Aspatha,
H6334 And Poratha H118 , and Adalia H743 , and Aridatha,
H6534 And Parmashta H747 , and Arisai H742 , and Aridai H2055 , and Vajezatha,
H6235 The ten H1121 sons H2001 of Haman H1121 the son H4099 of Hammedatha H6887 , the enemy [H8802]   H3064 of the Jews H2026 , slew [H8804]   H961 they; but on the spoil H7971 laid [H8804]   H3027 they not their hand.
H3117 On that day H4557 the number H2026 of those that were slain [H8803]   H7800 in Shushan H1002 the palace H935 was brought [H8804]   H6440 before H4428 the king.
H4428 And the king H559 said [H8799]   H635 unto Esther H4436 the queen H3064 , The Jews H2026 have slain [H8804]   H6 and destroyed [H8763]   H2568 five H3967 hundred H376 men H7800 in Shushan H1002 the palace H6235 , and the ten H1121 sons H2001 of Haman H6213 ; what have they done [H8804]   H7605 in the rest H4428 of the king's H4082 provinces H7596 ? now what is thy petition H5414 ? and it shall be granted [H8735]   H1246 thee: or what is thy request H5750 further H6213 ? and it shall be done [H8735]  .
H559 Then said [H8799]   H635 Esther H2896 , If it please H4428 the king H5414 , let it be granted [H8735]   H3064 to the Jews H7800 which are in Shushan H6213 to do [H8800]   H4279 to morrow H3117 also according unto this day's H1881 decree H2001 , and let Haman's H6235 ten H1121 sons H8518 be hanged [H8799]   H6086 upon the gallows.
H4428 And the king H559 commanded [H8799]   H6213 it so to be done [H8736]   H1881 : and the decree H5414 was given [H8735]   H7800 at Shushan H8518 ; and they hanged [H8804]   H2001 Haman's H6235 ten H1121 sons.
H3064 For the Jews H7800 that were in Shushan H6950 gathered themselves together [H8735]   H702 on the fourteenth H6240   H3117 day H2320 also of the month H143 Adar H2026 , and slew [H8799]   H7969 three H3967 hundred H376 men H7800 at Shushan H961 ; but on the prey H7971 they laid [H8804]   H3027 not their hand.
H7605 But the other H3064 Jews H4428 that were in the king's H4082 provinces H6950 gathered themselves together [H8738]   H5975 , and stood [H8800]   H5315 for their lives H5118 , and had rest H341 from their enemies [H8802]   H2026 , and slew [H8800]   H8130 of their foes [H8802]   H7657 seventy H2568 and five H505 thousand H7971 , but they laid [H8804]   H3027 not their hands H961 on the prey,
H7969 On the thirteenth H6240   H3117 day H2320 of the month H143 Adar H702 ; and on the fourteenth H6240   H5118 day of the same rested H6213 they, and made [H8800]   H3117 it a day H4960 of feasting H8057 and gladness.
H3064 But the Jews H7800 that were at Shushan H6950 assembled together [H8738]   H7969 on the thirteenth H6240   H702 day thereof, and on the fourteenth H6240   H2568 thereof; and on the fifteenth H6240   H5118 day of the same they rested H6213 , and made [H8800]   H3117 it a day H4960 of feasting H8057 and gladness.
H3064 Therefore the Jews H6521 of the villages H3427 , that dwelt [H8802]   H6519 in the unwalled H5892 towns H6213 , made [H8802]   H702 the fourteenth H6240   H3117 day H2320 of the month H143 Adar H8057 a day of gladness H4960 and feasting H2896 , and a good H3117 day H4916 , and of sending H4490 portions H376 one H7453 to another.
H4782 And Mordecai H3789 wrote [H8799]   H1697 these things H7971 , and sent [H8799]   H5612 letters H3064 unto all the Jews H4082 that were in all the provinces H4428 of the king H325 Ahasuerus H7138 , both nigh H7350 and far,
H6965 To stablish [H8763]   H6213 this among them, that they should keep [H8802]   H702 the fourteenth H6240   H3117 day H2320 of the month H143 Adar H2568 , and the fifteenth H6240   H3117 day H8141 of the same, yearly H8141  ,
H3117 As the days H3064 wherein the Jews H5117 rested [H8804]   H341 from their enemies [H8802]   H2320 , and the month H2015 which was turned [H8738]   H3015 unto them from sorrow H8057 to joy H60 , and from mourning H2896 into a good H3117 day H6213 : that they should make [H8800]   H3117 them days H4960 of feasting H8057 and joy H4916 , and of sending H4490 portions H376 one H7453 to another H4979 , and gifts H34 to the poor.
H3064 And the Jews H6901 undertook [H8765]   H6213 to do [H8800]   H2490 as they had begun [H8689]   H4782 , and as Mordecai H3789 had written [H8804]   unto them;
H2001 Because Haman H1121 the son H4099 of Hammedatha H91 , the Agagite H6887 , the enemy [H8802]   H3064 of all the Jews H2803 , had devised [H8804]   H3064 against the Jews H6 to destroy [H8763]   H5307 them, and had cast [H8689]   H6332 Pur H1486 , that is, the lot H2000 , to consume [H8800]   H6 them, and to destroy [H8763]   them;
H935 But when Esther came [H8800]   H6440 before H4428 the king H559 , he commanded [H8804]   H5612 by letters H7451 that his wicked H4284 device H2803 , which he devised [H8804]   H3064 against the Jews H7725 , should return [H8799]   H7218 upon his own head H1121 , and that he and his sons H8518 should be hanged [H8804]   H6086 on the gallows.
H7121 Wherefore they called [H8804]   H3117 these days H6332 Purim H8034 after the name H6332 of Pur H1697 . Therefore for all the words H107 of this letter H7200 , and of that which they had seen [H8804]   H3602 concerning this matter H5060 , and which had come [H8689]   unto them,
H3064 The Jews H6965 ordained [H8765]   H6901 , and took [H8765]   H2233 upon them, and upon their seed H3867 , and upon all such as joined [H8737]   H5674 themselves unto them, so as it should not fail [H8799]   H6213 , that they would keep [H8802]   H8147 these two H3117 days H3791 according to their writing H2165 , and according to their appointed time H8141 every year H8141  ;
H3117 And that these days H2142 should be remembered [H8737]   H6213 and kept [H8737]   H1755 throughout H1755 every generation H4940 , every family H4082 , every province H5892 , and every city H3117 ; and that these days H6332 of Purim H5674 should not fail [H8799]   H8432 from among H3064 the Jews H2143 , nor the memorial H5486 of them perish [H8799]   H2233 from their seed.
H635 Then Esther H4436 the queen H1323 , the daughter H32 of Abihail H4782 , and Mordecai H3064 the Jew H3789 , wrote [H8799]   H8633 with all authority H6965 , to confirm [H8763]   H8145 this second H107 letter H6332 of Purim.
H7971 And he sent [H8799]   H5612 the letters H3064 unto all the Jews H3967 , to the hundred H6242 twenty H7651 and seven H4082 provinces H4438 of the kingdom H325 of Ahasuerus H1697 , with words H7965 of peace H571 and truth,
H6965 To confirm [H8763]   H3117 these days H6332 of Purim H2165 in their times H4782 appointed, according as Mordecai H3064 the Jew H635 and Esther H4436 the queen H6965 had enjoined [H8765]   H6965 them, and as they had decreed [H8765]   H5315 for themselves H2233 and for their seed H1697 , the matters H6685 of the fastings H2201 and their cry.
H3982 And the decree H635 of Esther H6965 confirmed [H8765]   H1697 these matters H6332 of Purim H3789 ; and it was written [H8737]   H5612 in the book.
ERV(i) 1 Now in the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the king’s commandment and his decree drew near to be put in execution, in the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have rule over them; whereas it was turned to the contrary, that the Jews had rule over them that hated them; 2 the Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, to lay hand on such as sought their hurt: and no man could withstand them; for the fear of them was fallen upon all the peoples. 3 And all the princes of the provinces, and the satraps, and the governors, and they that did the king’s business, helped the Jews; because the fear of Mordecai was fallen upon them. 4 For Mordecai was great in the king’s house, and his fame went forth throughout all the provinces: for the man Mordecai waxed greater and greater. 5 And the Jews smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and with slaughter and destruction, and did what they would unto them that hated them. 6 And in Shushan the palace the Jews slew and destroyed five hundred men. 7 And Parshandatha, and Dalphon, and Aspatha, 8 and Poratha, and Adalia, and Aridatha, 9 and Parmashta, and Arisai, and Aridai, and Vaizatha, 10 the ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Jews’ enemy, slew they; but on the spoil they laid not their hand. 11 On that day the number of those that were slain in Shushan the palace was brought before the king. 12 And the king said unto Esther the queen, The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in Shushan the palace, and the ten sons of Haman; what then have they done in the rest of the king’s provinces! Now what is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: or what is thy request further? and it shall be done. 13 Then said Esther, If it please the king, let it be granted to the Jews which are in Shushan to do tomorrow also according unto this day’s decree, and let Haman’s ten sons be hanged upon the gallows. 14 And the king commanded it so to be done: and a decree was given out in Shushan; and they hanged Haman’s ten sons. 15 And the Jews that were in Shushan gathered themselves together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and slew three hundred men in Shushan; but on the spoil they laid not their hand. 16 And the other Jews that were in the king’s provinces gathered themselves together, and stood for their lives, and had rest from their enemies, and slew of them that hated them seventy and five thousand; but on the spoil they laid not their hand. 17 [This was done] on the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of the same they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness. 18 But the Jews that were in Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth [day] thereof, and on the fourteenth thereof; and on the fifteenth [day] of the same they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness. 19 Therefore do the Jews of the villages, that dwell in the unwalled towns, make the fourteenth day of the month Adar [a day of] gladness and feasting, and a good day, and of sending portions one to another. 20 And Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters unto all the Jews that were in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, both nigh and far, 21 to enjoin them that they should keep the fourteenth day of the month Adar, and the fifteenth day of the same, yearly, 22 as the days wherein the Jews had rest from their enemies, and the month which was turned unto them from sorrow to gladness, and from mourning into a good day: that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor. 23 And the Jews undertook to do as they had begun, and as Mordecai had written unto them; 24 because Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had devised against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur, that is, the lot, to consume them, and to destroy them; 25 but when [the matter] came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he had devised against the Jews, should return upon his own head; and that he and his sons should he hanged on the gallows. 26 Wherefore they called these days Purim, after the name of Pur. Therefore because of all the words of this letter, and of that which they had seen concerning this matter, and that which had come unto them, 27 the Jews ordained, and took upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all such as joined themselves unto them, so as it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to the writing thereof, and according to the appointed time thereof, every year; 28 and that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor the memorial of them perish from their seed. 29 Then Esther the queen, the daughter of Abihail, and Mordecai the Jew, wrote with all authority to confirm this second letter of Purim. 30 And he sent letters unto all the Jews, to the hundred twenty and seven provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, [with] words of peace and truth, 31 to confirm these days of Purim in their appointed times, according as Mordecai the Jew and Esther the queen had enjoined them, and as they had ordained for themselves and for their seed, in the matter of the fastings and their cry. 32 And the commandment of Esther confirmed these matters of Purim; and it was written in the book.
