  5 G2532 And G3568 now G5613 [2 is as G4561 3 the flesh G80 4of our brethren G1473   G4561 1our flesh]; G1473   G5613 as G5207 their sons G1473   G5207 our sons; G1473   G2532 and G2400 behold, G1473 we are G2616 tyrannizing over G3588   G5207 our sons G1473   G2532 and G3588   G2364 our daughters G1473   G1519 selling them for G1401 servants, G2532 and G1510.2.6 there are G575 some of G2364 our daughters G1473   G2616 being tyrannized already; G2532 and G3756 there is no G1510.2.3   G1411 power to redeem them G5495 by our hands, G1473   G2532 for G68 our fields G1473   G2532 and G290 our vineyards G1473   G3588 belong to the G1784 important ones.
  6 G2532 And G3076 I fretted G4970 very much G2531 as G191 I heard G3588   G2906 their cry G1473   G2532 and G3588   G3056 these words. G3778
  7 G2532 And G1011 [2took counsel G2588 1my heart] G1473   G1909 with G1473 me, G2532 and G3164 I did combat G4314 against G3588 the G1784 important ones, G2532 and G3588 the G758 rulers. G2532 And G2036 I said G1473 to them, G523 Shall [2exact G435 1a man] G3588   G80 from his brother G1473   G3739 what G1473 you G4160 do? G2532 And G1325 I put G1909 upon G1473 them G1577 [2assembly G3173 1a great].
  8 G2532 And G2036 I said G1473 to them, G1473 We G2932 have acquired G3588   G80 our brethren G1473   G3588 of the G* Jews, G3588 of the ones G4453 having been sold G3588 to the G1484 nations, G1722 by G1595 our voluntary offerings; G1473   G2532 and G1473 do you G4453 sell G3588   G80 your brethren? G1473   G2532 Or G4097 shall they be sold G1473 to us? G2532 And G2270 they were quiet, G2532 and G3756 they did not G2147 find G3056 a word.
  9 G2532 And G2036 I said, G3756 [3 is not good G18   G3588 1The G3056 2matter] G3739 which G1473 you G4160 do. G3756 [2not G3779 4thus G1722 5in G5401 6 the fear G2316 7of our God G1473   G565 1Should you 3go forth] G575 because of G3680 the scorn G3588 of the G1484 nations G3588   G2190 of our enemies? G1473
  10 G2532 And also G1065   G1473 I, G2532 and G3588   G80 my brethren, G1473   G2532 and G3588   G1110 my acquaintances, G1473   G5087 put up G1473 for them G694 money G2532 and G4621 grain; G1459 we abandoned G1211 indeed G3588   G523.1 this exaction. G3778
  11 G1994 Return G1211 indeed G1473 to them, G5613 even G4594 today, G68 their fields, G1473   G2532 and G290 their vineyards, G1473   G2532 and G1638 their olive groves, G1473   G2532 and G3614 their houses, G1473   G2532 and G575 of G3588 the G694 money G3588 for the G4621 grain, G2532 and G3588 [3the G3631 4wine G2532 5and G3588 6the G1637 7olive oil G1627 1bring forth G1438 2to them]!
  12 G2532 And G2036 they said, G591 We will give it back, G2532 and G3844 [3from G1473 4them G3756 1we will not G2212 2seek], G3779 we shall do thus G4160   G2531 as G1473 you G3004 say. G2532 And G2564 I called G3588 the G2409 priests, G2532 and G3726 bound them by an oath G1473   G4160 to do G5613 as G3588   G4487 this saying. G3778
13 G2532 And G3588   G311 [2my wrap G1473   G1621 1I shook off], G2532 and G2036 said, G3779 Thus G1621 shall [2shake off G3588   G2316 1God] G3956 every G435 man G3739 who G3756 does not G2476 stand by G3588   G3056 this word, G3778   G1537 of G3588   G3624 his house, G1473   G2532 and G1537 of G2873 his toil; G1473   G2532 and G1510.8.3 he will be G3779 thus G1621 shaken G2532 and G2756 empty.   5 H1320 Yet now our flesh H1320 is as the flesh H251 of our brethren, H1121 our sons H1121 as their sons: H3533 [H8802] and, lo, we bring into bondage H1121 our sons H1323 and our daughters H5650 to be servants, H1323 and some of our daughters H3426 are H3533 [H8737] brought to bondage H410 H3027 already: neither is it in our power H312 to redeem them; for other men H7704 have our lands H3754 and vineyards.
  6 H3966 And I was very H2734 [H8799] angry H8085 [H8804] when I heard H2201 their outcry H1697 and these words.
  7 H4427 [H8735] Then I consulted H3820 with myself, H7378 [H8799] and I rebuked H2715 the nobles, H5461 and the rulers, H559 [H8799] and said H5378 H5383 H5375 [H8801] to them, Ye exact H4855 interest, H376 every one H251 of his brother. H5414 [H8799] And I set H1419 a great H6952 congregation against them.
8 H559 [H8799] And I said H1767 to them, We after our ability H7069 [H8804] have redeemed H251 our brethren H3064 the Judeans, H4376 [H8737] who were sold H1471 to the nations; H4376 [H8799] and will ye even sell H251 your brethren? H4376 [H8738] or shall they be sold H2790 [H8686] to us? Then they held their peace, H4672 [H8804] and found H1697 nothing to answer.
9 H559 [H8799] Also I said, H2896 That is not good H1697 which H6213 [H8802] ye do: H3212 [H8799] ought ye not to walk H3374 in the fear H430 of our God H2781 because of the reproach H1471 of the nations H341 [H8802] our enemies?
10 H251 I likewise, my brethren, H5288 and my servants, H5383 [H8802] might exact H3701 of them money H1715 and grain: H5800 [H8799] I pray you, let us stop H4855 charging interest.
11 H7725 [H8685] Restore, H3117 I pray you, to them, even this day, H7704 their lands, H3754 their vineyards, H2132 their oliveyards, H1004 and their houses, H3967 also the hundredth H3701 part of the money, H1715 and of the grain, H8492 the wine, H3323 and the oil, H5383 [H8802] that ye exact of them.
12 H559 [H8799] Then said H7725 [H8686] they, We will restore H1245 [H8762] them, and will require H6213 [H8799] nothing of them; so will we do H559 [H8802] as thou sayest. H7121 [H8799] Then I called H3548 the priests, H7650 [H8686] and took an oath H6213 [H8800] of them, that they should do H1697 according to this promise.
13 H5287 [H8804] Also I shook H2684 my lap, H559 [H8799] and said, H430 So God H5287 [H8762] shake out H376 every man H1004 from his house, H3018 and from his labour, H6965 [H8686] that raiseth H1697 not this promise, H5287 [H8803] even thus be he shaken out, H7386 and emptied. H6951 And all the congregation H559 [H8799] said, H543 Amen, H1984 [H8762] and praised H3068 the LORD. H5971 And the people H6213 [H8799] did H1697 according to this promise.

And I brought a great congregation against them, 8 and said unto them, "We, after our ability, have bought our brethren the Jews, which were sold unto the Heathen. And will ye sell your brethren, whom we have bought unto us?" Then held they their peace, and could find nothing to answer. 9 Also I said, "It is not good, that ye do. And I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they should do so. 13 And I shook my lap, and said, "God shake out every man after the same manner from his house and labour, that maintaineth not this word: even thus be he shaken out, and void." And all the congregation said, "Amen," and praised the LORD. And the people did so.

Then helde they their peace, and could not answere. 9 I said also, That which ye do, is not good. Ought ye not to walke in the feare of our God, for the reproche of the heathen our enemies? 10 For euen I, my brethren, and my seruants doe lende them money and corne: I pray you, let vs leaue off this burden. 11 Restore, I pray you, vnto them this day their landes, their vineyardes, their oliues, and their houses, and remit the hundreth part of the siluer and of the corne, of the wine, and of the oyle that ye exact of them. 12 Then said they, We will restore it, and will not require it of them: we will doe as thou hast said. Then I called the Priestes, and caused them to sweare, that they shoulde doe according to this promise. 13 So I shooke my lappe, and said, So let God shake out euery man that wil not perfourme this promise from his house, and from his labour: euen thus let him be shaken out, and emptied. DouayRheims(i) 5 And now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren: and our children as their children. Behold we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters, and some of our daughters are bondwomen already, neither have we wherewith to redeem them, and our fields and our vineyards other men possess. 6 And I was exceedingly angry when I heard their cry according to these words. 7 And my heart thought with myself: and I rebuked the nobles and magistrates, and said to them: Do you every one exact usury of your brethren? And I gathered together a great assembly against them, 8 And I said to them: We, as you know, have redeemed according to our ability our brethren the Jews, that were sold to the Gentiles: and will you then sell your brethren, for us to redeem them? And they held their peace, and found not what to answer. 9 And I said to them: The thing you do is not good: why walk you not in the fear of our God, that we be not exposed to the reproaches of the Gentiles our enemies? 10 Both I and my brethren, and my servants, have lent money and corn to many: let us all agree not to call for it again; let us forgive the debt that is owing to us. 11 Restore ye to them this day their fields, and their vineyards, and their oliveyards, and their houses: and the hundredth part of the money, and of the corn, the wine, and the oil, which you were wont to exact of them, give it rather for them. 12 And they said: We will restore, and we will require nothing of them: and we will do as thou sayest. And I called the priests and took an oath of them, to do according to what I had said. 13 Moreover I shook my lap, and said: So may God shake every man that shall not accomplish this word, out of his house, and out of his labours, thus may he be shaken out, and become empty. And all the multitude said: Amen. And they praised God. And the people did according to what was said.

Thomson(i) 5 and now our flesh is the same as that of our brethren, our sons the same as theirs, yet behold we are subjecting our sons and our daughters to be slaves, nay, some of our daughters are already subjected to bondage, and we have no means to redeem them, for our nobles have got our fields and our vineyards. 6 Upon hearing their cry and these speeches, I was exceedingly grieved. 7 And having consulted in my own mind, I chid the nobles and the chiefs, and said to them, would any man exact of his brother what you exact? Then having assembled a great meeting against them, 8 I said to them, We with our free will offerings have purchased' our brethren the Jews who were sold to the nations; and are you going to sell your brethren that they may be sold to us? And when they held their peace and found no answer, 9 I said, This thing which you do is not good. It is not in this manner that you are in the fear of our God to avoid the reproach of the nations, our enemies. 10 My brethren and my acquaintances, and I myself, have lent them money and provisions. Let us I pray you relinquish our demands for this. 11 Restore to them, I beseech you, this very day their fields, and their vineyards, and their olive yards, and their houses; and abate the price at which you have sold to each other corn and wine and oil. 12 Thereupon they said, We will restore, and require nothing of them. We will do as thou sayest. Then I called the priests and having caused them to swear that they would do according to this decree, 13 I shook my lap and said, So may God shake every man who will not perform this promise, out of his house and from his labour, and let them be shaken out and emptied. And all the congregation said, Amen; and praised the Lord, and the people executed the decree.

Brenton(i) 5 And now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children are as their children: yet, behold, we are reducing our sons and our daughters to slavery, and some of our daughters are enslaved: and there is no power of our hands, for our fields and our vineyards belong to the nobles. 6 And I was much grieved as I heard their cry and these words. 7 And my heart took counsel within me, and I contended against the nobles, and the princes, and I said to them, Should every man demand of his brother what ye demand? And I appointed against them a great assembly, 8 and I said to them, We of our free-will have redeemed our brethren the Jews that were sold to the Gentiles; and do ye sell your brethren? and shall they be delivered to us? And they were silent, and found no answer. 9 And I said, The thing which ye do is not good; ye will not so walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the Gentiles our enemies. 10 Both my brethren, and my acquaintances, and I, have lent them money and corn: let us now leave off this exaction. 11 Restore to them, I pray, as at this day, their fields, and their vineyards, and their olive-yards, and their houses, and bring forth to them corn and wine and oil of the money. 12 And they said, We will restore, and we will not exact of them; we will do thus as thou sayest. Then I called the priests, and bound them by oath to do according to this word. 13 And I shook out my garment, and said, So may God shake out every man who shall not keep to this word, from his house, and from his labours, he shall be even thus shaken out, as an outcast and empty. And all the congregation said, Amen, and they praised the Lord: and the people did this thing.

Leeser(i) 5 Yet now our flesh is like the flesh of our brethren, our children are like their children: and, lo, we must force our sons and our daughters to become servants, and some of our daughters are forced to become so, and our hand is powerless; and our fields and our vineyards belong to others. 6 And it displeased me greatly when I heard their complaint and these words. 7 Then did I consult with my heart, and I upbraided the nobles, and the rulers, and said unto them, “Ye exact usury, every one of his brother!” And I brought together a great assembly against them. 8 And I said unto them, We have indeed ransomed our brethren the Jews, who had been sold unto the various nations, as far as our means went: and will ye yourselves even sell your brethren, so that they will be sold again unto us? And they remained silent, and found no answer. 9 Then said I, The thing is not good which ye are doing: ought ye not to walk in the fear of our God, because of the taunting of the nations, our enemies? 10 And also I, my brothers, and my young men, have lent them money and corn: I pray you, let us relinquish this loan. 11 Give back to them, I pray you, even this day, their fields, their vineyards, their oliveyards, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, and of the corn, the wine, and the oil, that ye have lent them. 12 Then said they, We will give all back, and of them will we require nothing: so will we do as thou sayest. And I shall give a great convocation against them. 8 And saying to them, We bought off our brethren the Jews, being sold to the nations; according to the sufficiency in us and also will ye sell your brethren? and were they sold to us? And they will be silent, and they found not a word. 9 And it will be said, Not good the word which ye do: will ye not go in the fear of our God from the reproach of the nations our enemies? 10 And also I, my brethren and my young men exacting upon them silver and grain: we will leave off now this debt 11 Turn back now to them according to this day, their fields, their vineyards, their olive trees, and their houses, and the hundredth of the silver and the grain, the new wine and the new oil which ye impose upon them. 12 And they will say, We will turn back, and we will not seek from them; thus will we do as thou sayest And I shall call the priests and shall cause them to swear to do according to this word. 13 Also I shook out my arm, and said, Thus God will shake out every man who will not raise up this word from his house and from his labor; so shall he be shaken out and emptied.   12 H559 Then said H7725 they, We will restore H1245 them, and will require H6213 nothing of them; so will we do, H559 even as thou sayest. H7121 Then I called H3548 the priests, H7650 and took an oath H6213 of them, that they would do H1697 according to this promise.
13 H5287 Also I shook H2684 out my lap, H559 and said, H430 So God H5287 shake out H376 every man H1004 from his house, H3018 and from his labor, H6965 that performeth H1697 not this promise; H5287 even thus be he shaken out, H7386 and emptied. And I held a great assembly against them. 8 And I said unto them: 'We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews, that sold themselves unto the heathen; and would ye nevertheless sell your brethren, and should they sell themselves unto us?' Then held they their peace, and found never a word. 9 Also I said: 'The thing that ye do is not good; ought ye not to walk in the fear of our God, because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies? 10 And I likewise, my brethren and my servants, have lent them money and corn. I pray you, let us leave off this exaction. 11 Restore, I pray you, to them, even this day, their fields, their vineyards, their oliveyards, and their houses, also the hundred pieces of silver, and the corn, the wine, and the oil, that ye exact of them.' 12 Then said they: 'We will restore them, and will require nothing of them; so will we do, even as thou sayest.' Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they should do according to this promise. 13 Also I shook out my lap, and said: 'So God shake out every man from his house, and from his labour, that performeth not this promise; even thus be he shaken out, and emptied.' And all the congregation said: 'Amen', and praised the LORD. And the people did according to this promise.
Rotherham(i) 5 Now, therefore, as is the flesh of our brethren, so is our flesh, as are their children, so are our children. Yet lo! we are putting in subjection our sons and our daughters, for bondservants, yea there are some of our daughters already trodden down, and we are powerless, and, our fields and our vineyards, belong to others.
6 And it angered me greatly,––when I heard their outcry, and these words. 7 So my heart took counsel unto me and I contended with the nobles and with the deputies, and said to them, A loan on interest––every man to his brother, are ye making,––So I appointed over them a great assembly; 8 and I said unto them, We, have bought our brethren the Jews, who had sold themselves unto the nations, according to our ability, and will, ye, even sell your brethren, or shall they sell themselves unto us? And they were silent, and found no answer. 9 Then said I, Not good, is the thing which ye are doing,––ought ye not, in the fear of God, to walk, because of the reproach of the nations, our enemies? 10 I too, then, my brethren and my young men, might be lending unto them on interest silver and corn! I pray you, let us leave off this lending on interest! 11 Restore, I pray you, unto them this very day, their fields, their vineyards, their oliveyards, and their houses,––also the hundredth of silver and corn, new wine and oil, for which ye have been lending to them. 12 And they said, We will restore them, and, from them, will we require nothing, so, will we do, as thou, art saying. Then called I the priests, and put them on oath, to do according to this promise. 13 Also, my lap, shook I out, and said––Thus and thus, may God shake out every man who shall not confirm this promise, out of his house and out of his labour, yea, thus and thus, let him be shaken out and empty,––And all the convocation said, Amen! and praised Yahweh, and the people did according to this promise.
CLV(i) 5 and now, as the flesh of our brethren [is] our flesh, as their sons [are] our sons, and lo, we are subduing our sons and our daughters for servants, and there are of our daughters subdued, and our hand has no might, and our fields and our vineyards [are] to others.. 6 And it is very displeasing to me when I have heard their cry and these words, 7 and my heart reigns over me, and I strive with the freemen, and with the prefects, and say to them, `Usury one upon another you are exacting;' and I set against them a great assembly, 8 and say to them, `We have acquired our brethren the Jews, those sold to the nations, according to the ability that [is] in us, and you also sell your brethren, and they have been sold to us!' and they are silent, and have not found a word. 9 And I say, `Not good [is] the thing that you are doing; in the fear of our Elohim do you not walk, because of the reproach of the nations our enemies? 10 And also, I, my brethren, and my servants, are exacting of them silver and corn; let us leave off, I pray you, this usury. 11 Give back, I pray you, to them, as to-day, their fields, their vineyards, their olive-yards, and their houses, and the hundredth [part] of the money, and of the corn, of the new wine, and of the oil, that you are exacting of them.. 12 And they say, `We give back, and of them we seek nothing; so we do as you are saying.' And I call the priests, and cause them to swear to do according to this thing;" 13 also, my lap I have shaken, and I say, `Thus does Elohim shake out every man, who does not perform this thing, from his house, and from his labor; yea, thus is he shaken out and empty;' and all the assembly say, `Amen,' and praise Yahweh; and the people do according to this thing.
BBE(i) 5 But our flesh is the same as the flesh of our countrymen, and our children as their children: and now we are giving our sons and daughters into the hands of others, to be their servants, and some of our daughters are servants even now: and we have no power to put a stop to it; for other men have our fields and our vine-gardens. 6 And on hearing their outcry and what they said I was very angry. 7 And after turning it over in my mind, I made a protest to the chiefs and the rulers, and said to them, Every one of you is taking interest from his countryman. And I got together a great meeting of protest. 8 And I said to them, We have given whatever we were able to give, to make our brothers the Jews free, who were servants and prisoners of the nations: and would you now give up your brothers for a price, and are they to become our property? Then they said nothing, answering not a word. 9 And I said, What you are doing is not good: is it not the more necessary for you to go in the fear of our God, because of the shame which the nations may put on us? 10 Even I and my servants have been taking interest for the money and the grain we have let them have. So now, let us give up this thing. 11 Give back to them this very day their fields, their vine-gardens, their olive-gardens, and their houses, as well as a hundredth part of the money and the grain and the wine and the oil which you have taken from them. 12 Then they said, We will give them back, and take nothing for them; we will do as you say. Then I sent for the priests and made them take an oath that they would keep this agreement. 13 And shaking out the folds of my robe, I said, So may God send out from his house and his work every man who does not keep this agreement; even so let him be sent out and made as nothing. And all the meeting of the people said, So be it, and gave praise to the Lord. And the people did as they had said.
MKJV(i) 5 Yet now our flesh is like the flesh of our brothers, our sons like their sons. And I held a great gathering against them. 8 And I said to them, According to our ability we have redeemed our brothers, the Jews who were sold to the nations. And will you even sell your brothers? Or shall they be sold to us? And they were silent and did not find an answer. 9 And I said, What you do is not good. Should you not walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the nations our enemies? 10 And also I, my brothers and my servants, might take from them silver and grain. Please let us leave this lending at interest. 11 Please even today give back to them their lands, their vineyards, their olive-yards, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money and of the grain, the wine, and the oil, that you take from them. 12 And they said, We will restore, and will ask nothing from them. So we will do as you say. Then I called the priests and took an oath from them that they should do according to this promise. 13 Also I shook my lap and said, So let God shake out every man from his house, and from his labor, who does not keep this promise, even may he be shaken out this way and emptied. And all the congregation said, amen, and praised Jehovah. And the people did according to this promise.

Then held they their peace, and found nothing to answer. 9 Also I said, It is not good that all of you do: ought all of you not to walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies? 10 I likewise, and my brethren, and my servants, might exact of them money and corn: I pray you, let us leave off this interest. 11 Restore, I pray you, to them, even this day, their lands, their vineyards, their olive yards, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, and of the corn, the wine, and the oil, that all of you exact of them. 12 Then said they, We will restore them, and will require nothing of them; so will we do as you say. Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they should do according to this promise. 13 Also I shook my lap, and said, So God shake out every man from his house, and from his labour, that performs not this promise, even thus be he shaken out, and emptied.   7 H4427 Then I consulted H3820 with myself, H7378 and I rebuked H2715 the nobles, H5461 and the rulers, H559 and said H5383 unto them, You exact H4855 usury, H376 every one H251 of his brother. H5414 And I set H1419 a great H6952 assembly against them.

EJ2000(i) 5 Yet now, given that the flesh of our brethren is as our flesh and their sons as our sons, behold, we subject our sons and our daughters to slavery, and there are some of our daughters in bondage already; neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards. 6 ¶ And I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words. 7 Then I meditated unto myself, and I rebuked the principals and the rulers and said unto them, Does each one of you exact usury of his brother? And I set a great assembly against them. 8 And I said unto them, We after our ability have redeemed our brethren, the Jews who had been sold unto the Gentiles; and will ye even sell your brethren? And shall they be sold unto us? Then they remained silent, for they had nothing to answer. 9 Also I said, What you do is not good, do you not walk in the fear of our God, that ye not be the reproach of our enemies the Gentiles? 10 I, likewise, and my brethren and my servants, have lent them money and grain; let us now release them from this burden. 11 Restore, I pray you, to them, today, their lands, their vineyards, their oliveyards, and their houses, and even the hundredth part of the money, and of the grain, the wine, and the oil, that ye exact of them. 12 Then they said, We will return it and will require nothing of them; so we will do as thou sayest. Then I called the priests and caused them to sware that they should do according to this promise. 13 Also I shook my lap and said, Thus will God shake out each man from his house and from his labour, that does not perform this promise, even thus shall he be shaken out and emptied. And all the congregation said, Amen, and praised the LORD. And the people did according to this promise.
CAB(i) 5 And now our flesh is as the flesh of our brothers, our children are as their children. Yet behold, we are reducing our sons and our daughters to slavery, and some of our daughters are enslaved; and there is no power of our hands, for our fields and our vineyards belong to the nobles. 6 And I was very angry as I heard their cry and these words. 7 And my heart took counsel within me, and I contended against the nobles, and the princes, and I said to them, Should every man demand of his brother what you demand? And I appointed against them a great assembly, 8 and I said to them, We of our free will have redeemed our brothers the Jews that were sold to the Gentiles; and do you sell your brothers? And shall they be delivered to us? And they were silent, and found no answer. 9 And I said, The thing which you do is not good; you will not so walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the Gentiles our enemies. 10 Both my brothers, and my acquaintances, and I, have lent them money and grain. Let us now leave off this usury! 11 Restore to them, I pray, as at this day, their fields, and their vineyards, and their olive yards, and their houses, and bring forth to them grain and wine and oil of the money. 12 And they said, We will restore, and we will not exact of them; we will do thus as you say. Then I called the priests, and bound them by oath to do according to this word. 13 And I shook out my garment, and said, So may God shake out every man who shall not keep to this word, from his house, and from his labors, he shall be even thus shaken out, as an outcast and empty. And all the congregation said, Amen, and they praised the Lord; and the people did this thing.

NSB(i) 5 »But our flesh is the same as the flesh of our countrymen, and our children as their children. Now we give our sons and daughters into the hands of others, to be their servants. Some of our daughters are servants even now. We have no power to stop this. For other men have our fields and our vine-gardens.« 6 On hearing their outcry and what they said I was very angry. 7 After giving it much thought, I made a protest to the chiefs and the rulers, and said to them: »Everyone of you is collecting interest from his brothers.« I organized a big meeting of protest. 8 I said to them: »We have given whatever we were able to give, to make our brothers the Jews free. They were servants and prisoners of the nations. Would you now give up your brothers for a price? Are they to become our property?« They said nothing. They answered not a word! 9 I said: »What you are doing is not good. Is it not necessary for you to walk out of respect for our God, because of the shame the nations put on us? 10 »Even I and my servants have been collecting interest (Usury) for the money and the grain we have let them have. So now, let us give this up. 11 »Give back to them this very day their fields, their vine-gardens, their olive-gardens, and their houses, as well as a hundredth part of the money and the grain and the wine and the oil that you have taken from them.« 12 They said: »We will give them back, and take nothing for them. We will do as you say.« Then I sent for the priests and made them take an oath that they would keep this agreement. 13 Shaking out the folds of my robe, I said: »So, may God send out from his house and his work every man who does not keep this agreement. Even so let him be sent out and made as nothing.« All the people said: »Amen!« They praised Jehovah. The people did as they said.
ISV(i) 5 Now our bodies are no different than the bodies of our relatives, and our children are like their children. Nevertheless, we’re about to force our sons and daughters into slavery, and some of our daughters are already in bondage. It’s beyond our power to do anything about it, because our fields and vineyards belong to others.”
6 I became very livid when I heard their complaining and these charges. 7 So after thinking it over carefully, I accused the officials and nobles openly, “Every one of you is charging your fellow countrymen interest!” So I opened a public investigation against them.
8 I accused them, “To the best of our ability, we’ve been buying back our fellow Jews who had been sold to foreigners. Even now you’re selling your fellow countrymen, only for them to be sold back to us!” They kept quiet and never spoke a word.
9 So I said, “What you’re doing isn’t right! Shouldn’t you live in the fear of our God to avoid shame from our foreign enemies? 10 I’m also lending money and grain, as are my fellow-Jews and my servants, but let’s not charge interest. 11 So today please restore to them their fields, vineyards, olive orchards, and homes, along with the one percent interest charge that you’ve assessed them on the grain, wine, and oil.”
12 They responded, “We will restore these things, and will assess no interest charges against them. We will do what you are requesting!”
So I called the priests and made them take an oath to fulfill this promise. 13 I also shook my robes, and said, “May God shake out every man from his house and his possessions who does not keep this promise. May he be emptied out and shaken just like this.”
All the assembly said, “Amen!” and praised the LORD. And the people kept their promise.
LEB(i) 5 Now our flesh is like the flesh of our brothers, our sons are like their sons. Look, we are subduing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and there are some from our daughters being molested. We are powerless,* and our fields and vineyards belong to others." 6 I was very angry when I heard their shouts and these words. 7 I thought over this in my heart, and then I quarreled with the nobles and the prefects. I said to them, "You yourselves are taking interest from your own brother!" So I called the great assembly against them, 8 and I said to them: "We ourselves have bought back our brothers the Jews who were sold to the nations as we were able. But now you yourselves have sold your brothers so they may be sold to us!" They were silent and could not find a word to say. 9 So I said, "The thing that you are doing is not good. Should you not walk in the fear of our God to prevent the disgrace from the nations, our enemies? 10 Also, I and my brothers and my servants are lending them money and grain. Please stop taking this interest. 11 Please restore to them this day their fields, their vineyards, their olive groves, their houses, and the interest on the money, the grain, the grape juice, and the olive oil that you have been taking from them." 12 So they said, "We will restore it and will not request anything more. So we will do as you say." Then I called the priests and made them take an oath to do this promise. 13 I also shook out my garment and said, "This is how God will shake out everyone from his house who will not keep this promise. So this is how his possessions will be shaken out and emptied." And all the assembly said, "Amen!" And they praised Yahweh, and the people kept this promise.

Some of our daughters are already enslaved, but we are powerless to redeem them because our fields and vineyards belong to others.” 6 When I heard their outcry and these complaints, I became extremely angry, 7 and after serious thought I rebuked the nobles and officials, saying, “You are exacting usury from your own brothers!” So I called a large assembly against them 8 and said, “We have done our best to buy back our Jewish brothers who were sold to foreigners, but now you are selling your own brothers, that they may be sold back to us!” But they remained silent, for they could find nothing to say. 9 So I continued, “What you are doing is not right. Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God to avoid the reproach of our foreign enemies? 10 I, as well as my brothers and my servants, have been lending the people money and grain. Please, let us stop this usury. 11 Please restore to them immediately their fields, vineyards, olive groves, and houses, along with the percentage of the money, grain, new wine, and oil that you have been assessing them.” 12 “We will restore it,” they replied, “and will require nothing more from them. We will do as you say.” So I summoned the priests and required of the nobles and officials an oath that they would do what they had promised. 13 I also shook out the folds of my robe and said, “May God likewise shake out of His house and possession every man who does not keep this promise. May such a man be shaken out and have nothing!” The whole assembly said, “Amen,” and they praised the LORD. And the people did as they had promised.

Laat ons toch dezen last nalaten.

On célébra l'Eternel.

Y callaron, pues no tuvieron qué responder.

7 Pošto sam u sebi promislio, prekorio sam velikaše i odličnike riječima: "Vi namećete teret svojoj braći!" I sazvao sam protiv njih velik zbor. 10 I ja, i moja braća, i moji momci davali smo im novaca i žita. A sav zbor odgovori "Amen!" hvaleći Jahvu.
7 I uložil jsem v srdci svém, abych domlouval přednějším a knížatům, řka jim: Vy jste ti, jenž obtěžujete jeden každý bratra svého. I svolal jsem proti nim shromáždění veliké. 8 A řekl jsem jim: My vyplacujeme bratří své Židy, kteříž prodáni byli pohanům, podlé možnosti naší. Což vy zase prodávati máte bratří vaše, anobrž což je sobě prodávati budete? Kteřížto umlkli a nenalezli odpovědi. I řeklo všecko shromáždění: Amen, a chválili Hospodina.

Kaj la tuta komunumo diris:Amen; kaj oni gloris la Eternulon.
12 Niin he sanoivat: me annamme jälleen, ja emme ano heiltä mitään; me teemme niinkuin sinä olet sanonut.
He olivat vaiti eivätkä voineet vastata mitään.

11 Renmèt yo jaden yo, pye rezen yo, pye oliv yo ak kay yo touswit.
Indonesian(i) 5 Bukankah kami juga orang Yahudi?

I umilknęli, i nie znaleźli, coby odpo wiedzieć. 9 Nadtom rzekł: Nie dobra to rzecz, którą wy czynicie; azaż nie w bojaźni Boga naszego chodzić macie raczej niż w hańbie poganów, nieprzyjaciół naszych? 10 I jać też z braćmi moimi, i z sługami moimi, pożyczyliśmy im pieniędzy, i zboża; odpuśćmyż im proszę ten ciężar. I rzekło wszystko zgromadzenie: Amen.

E toda a congregação disse: Amém!

Så sammenkalte jeg et stort folkemøte mot dem. 8 Og jeg sa til dem: Vi har, så vidt vi kunde, løskjøpt våre jødiske brødre som var solgt til hedningene, og så vil I selge eders brødre, og de må selge sig til oss! Da tidde de og fant ikke et ord til svar. 9 Så sa jeg: Det er ikke rett det I gjør; burde I ikke vandre i frykt for vår Gud, så ikke hedningene, våre fiender, skal få grunn til å håne oss? 10 Også jeg og mine brødre og mine folk har lånt dem penger og korn; la oss eftergi denne gjeld! 11 Gi nu I dem på denne dag deres marker, vingårder, oljehaver og hus tilbake og eftergi dem rentene av pengene og kornet og mosten og oljen som I har lånt dem! 12 Da sa de: Vi vil gi det tilbake og ikke kreve noget av dem; vi vil gjøre som du sier. Og efterat jeg hadde tilkalt prestene, lot jeg dem sverge på at de vilde gjøre som de hadde sagt. 13 Jeg rystet også ut brystfolden* på min kjortel og sa: Således skal Gud ryste hver mann som ikke holder dette sitt ord, ut av hans hus og gods - så utrystet og tom skal han bli! Og hele forsamlingen sa: Amen! Og de priste Herren, og folket gjorde efter det som var sagt. / {* den tjente som lomme.}
