  1 H4672 If one be found [H8735]   H2491 slain H127 in the land H3068 which the LORD H430 thy God H5414 giveth [H8802]   H3423 thee to possess [H8800]   H5307 it, lying [H8802]   H7704 in the field H3045 , and it be not known [H8738]   H5221 who hath slain [H8689]   him:
  2 H2205 Then thy elders H8199 and thy judges [H8802]   H3318 shall come forth [H8804]   H4058 , and they shall measure [H8804]   H5892 unto the cities H5439 which are round about H2491 him that is slain:
  3 H5892 And it shall be, that the city H7138 which is next H2491 unto the slain man H2205 , even the elders H5892 of that city H3947 shall take [H8804]   H1241 an heifer H5697   H5647 , which hath not been wrought with [H8795]   H4900 , and which hath not drawn [H8804]   H5923 in the yoke;
  4 H2205 And the elders H5892 of that city H3381 shall bring down [H8689]   H5697 the heifer H386 unto a rough H5158 valley H5647 , which is neither eared [H8735]   H2232 nor sown [H8735]   H6202 , and shall strike off H5697 the heifer's H6202 neck [H8804]   H5158 there in the valley:
  5 H3548 And the priests H1121 the sons H3878 of Levi H5066 shall come near [H8738]   H3068 ; for them the LORD H430 thy God H977 hath chosen [H8804]   H8334 to minister [H8763]   H1288 unto him, and to bless [H8763]   H8034 in the name H3068 of the LORD H6310 ; and by their word H7379 shall every controversy H5061 and every stroke be tried :
  6 H2205 And all the elders H5892 of that city H7138 , that are next H2491 unto the slain H7364 man, shall wash [H8799]   H3027 their hands H5697 over the heifer H6202 that is beheaded [H8803]   H5158 in the valley:
  7 H6030 And they shall answer [H8804]   H559 and say [H8804]   H3027 , Our hands H8210 have not shed [H8804]   H1818 this blood H5869 , neither have our eyes H7200 seen [H8804]   it .
  8 H3722 Be merciful [H8761]   H3068 , O LORD H5971 , unto thy people H3478 Israel H6299 , whom thou hast redeemed [H8804]   H5414 , and lay [H8799]   H5355 not innocent H1818 blood H5971 unto thy people H3478 of Israel's H7130 charge H1818 . And the blood H3722 shall be forgiven [H8694]   them.
  9 H1197 So shalt thou put away [H8762]   H5355 the guilt of innocent H1818 blood H7130 from among H6213 you, when thou shalt do [H8799]   H3477 that which is right H5869 in the sight H3068 of the LORD.
  10 H3318 When thou goest forth [H8799]   H4421 to war H341 against thine enemies [H8802]   H3068 , and the LORD H430 thy God H5414 hath delivered [H8804]   H3027 them into thine hands H7617 , and thou hast taken [H8804]   H7628 them captive,
  11 H7200 And seest [H8804]   H7633 among the captives H8389 a beautiful H3303   H802 woman H2836 , and hast a desire [H8804]   H3947 unto her, that thou wouldest have her [H8804]   H802 to thy wife;
  12 H935 Then thou shalt bring [H8689]   H8432 her home H1004 to thine house H1548 ; and she shall shave [H8765]   H7218 her head H6213 , and pare [H8804]   H6856 her nails;
  13 H5493 And she shall put [H8689]   H8071 the raiment H7628 of her captivity H3427 from off her, and shall remain [H8804]   H1004 in thine house H1058 , and bewail [H8804]   H1 her father H517 and her mother H3117 a full H3391 month H310 : and after H935 that thou shalt go [H8799]   H1166 in unto her, and be her husband [H8804]   H802 , and she shall be thy wife.
  14 H2654 And it shall be, if thou have no delight [H8804]   H7971 in her, then thou shalt let her go [H8765]   H5315 whither she will H4376 ; but thou shalt not sell [H8799]   H4376 her at all [H8800]   H3701 for money H6014 , thou shalt not make merchandise [H8691]   H834 of her, because H6031 thou hast humbled [H8765]   her.
  15 H376 If a man H8147 have two H802 wives H259 , one H157 beloved [H8803]   H259 , and another H8130 hated [H8803]   H3205 , and they have born [H8804]   H1121 him children H157 , both the beloved [H8803]   H8130 and the hated [H8803]   H1060 ; and if the firstborn H1121 son H8146 be hers that was hated:
  16 H3117 Then it shall be, when H1121 he maketh his sons H5157 to inherit [H8687]   H3201 that which he hath, that he may [H8799]   H1121 not make the son H157 of the beloved [H8803]   H1069 firstborn [H8763]   H6440 before H1121 the son H8130 of the hated [H8803]   H1060 , which is indeed the firstborn:
  17 H5234 But he shall acknowledge [H8686]   H1121 the son H8130 of the hated [H8803]   H1060 for the firstborn H5414 , by giving [H8800]   H8147 him a double H6310 portion H4672 of all that he hath [H8735]   H7225 : for he is the beginning H202 of his strength H4941 ; the right H1062 of the firstborn is his.
  18 H376 If a man H5637 have a stubborn [H8802]   H4784 and rebellious [H8802]   H1121 son H8085 , which will not obey [H8802]   H6963 the voice H1 of his father H6963 , or the voice H517 of his mother H3256 , and that, when they have chastened [H8765]   H8085 him, will not hearken [H8799]   unto them:
  19 H1 Then shall his father H517 and his mother H8610 lay hold [H8804]   H3318 on him, and bring him out [H8689]   H2205 unto the elders H5892 of his city H8179 , and unto the gate H4725 of his place;
  20 H559 And they shall say [H8804]   H2205 unto the elders H5892 of his city H1121 , This our son H5637 is stubborn [H8802]   H4784 and rebellious [H8802]   H8085 , he will not obey [H8802]   H6963 our voice H2151 ; he is a glutton [H8802]   H5433 , and a drunkard [H8802]  .
  21 H582 And all the men H5892 of his city H7275 shall stone [H8804]   H68 him with stones H4191 , that he die [H8804]   H1197 : so shalt thou put H7451 evil H1197 away [H8765]   H7130 from among H3478 you; and all Israel H8085 shall hear [H8799]   H3372 , and fear [H8799]  .
  22 H376 And if a man H2399 have committed a sin H4941 worthy of H4194 death H4191 , and he be to be put to death [H8717]   H8518 , and thou hang [H8804]   H6086 him on a tree:
  23 H5038 His body H3885 shall not remain all night [H8799]   H6086 upon the tree H6912 , but thou shalt in any wise [H8800]   H6912 bury [H8799]   H3117 him that day H8518 ; (for he that is hanged [H8803]   H7045 is accursed H430 of God H127 ;) that thy land H2930 be not defiled [H8762]   H3068 , which the LORD H430 thy God H5414 giveth [H8802]   H5159 thee for an inheritance.
ERV(i) 1 If one be found slain in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it, lying in the field, and it be not known who hath smitten him: 2 then thy elders and thy judges shall come forth, and they shall measure unto the cities which are round about him that is slain: 3 and it shall be, that the city which is nearest unto the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take an heifer of the herd, which hath not been wrought with, and which hath not drawn in the yoke; 4 and the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer unto a valley with running water, which is neither plowed nor sown, and shall break the heifer’s neck there in the valley: 5 and the priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them the LORD thy God hath chosen to minister unto him, and to bless in the name of the LORD; and according to their word shall every controversy and every stroke be: 6 and all the elders of that city, who are nearest unto the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley: 7 and they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it. 8 Forgive, O LORD, thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and suffer not innocent blood [to remain] in the midst of thy people Israel. And the blood shall be forgiven them. 9 So shalt thou put away the innocent blood from the midst of thee, when thou shalt do that which is right in the eyes of the LORD. 10 When thou goest forth to battle against thine enemies, and the LORD thy God delivereth them into thine hands, and thou carriest them away captive, 11 and seest among the captives a beautiful woman, and thou hast a desire unto her, and wouldest take her to thee to wife; 12 then thou shalt bring her home to thine house; and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails; 13 and she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thine house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife. 14 And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt let her go whither she will; but thou shalt not sell her at all for money, thou shalt not deal with her as a slave, because thou hast humbled her. 15 If a man have two wives, the one beloved, and the other hated, and they have borne him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son be hers that was hated; 16 then it shall be, in the day that he causeth his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved the firstborn before the son of the hated, which is the firstborn: 17 but he shall acknowledge the firstborn, the son of the hated, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his. 18 If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and though they chasten him, will not hearken unto them: 19 then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place; 20 and they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a riotous liver, and a drunkard. 21 And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put away the evil from the midst of thee; and all Israel shall hear, and fear. 22 And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree; 23 his body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt surely bury him the same day; for he that is hanged is accursed of God; that thou defile not thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.
