13 H1571 וגם And I have also H834 אשׁר thee that which H3808 לא thou hast not H7592 שׁאלת asked, H5414 נתתי given H1571 לך גם both H6239 עשׁר riches, H1571 גם and H3519 כבוד honor: H834 אשׁר so that H3808 לא there shall not H1961 היה be H3644 כמוך like unto thee H376 אישׁ any H4428 במלכים among the kings H3605 כל all H3117 ימיך׃ thy days.

6 H8010 And Solomon H559 [H8799] said, H6213 [H8804] Thou hast shown H5650 to thy servant H1732 David H1 my father H1419 great H2617 mercy, H1980 [H8804] according as he walked H6440 at the face of H571 thee in truth, H6666 and in righteousness, H3483 and in uprightness H3824 of heart H8104 [H8799] with thee; and thou hast kept H1419 for him this great H2617 mercy, H5414 [H8799] that thou hast given H1121 him a son H3427 [H8802] to sit H3678 on his throne, H3117 as it is this day.

NSB⁽ⁱ⁾ ⁵ That night Jehovah appeared to him in a dream and asked him: »What do you want me to give you?« ⁶ Solomon answered: »You always showed great love for my father David, your servant. He was good, loyal, and honest in his relation with you. You have continued to show him your great and constant love by giving him a son who today rules in his place. ⁷ »O Jehovah God, you allowed me to succeed my father as king, even though I am very young and do not know how to rule. ⁸ »I am among the people you have chosen to be your own. They are a people who are so many that they cannot be counted. ⁹ ‘Give me the wisdom I need to rule your people with justice. Help me know the difference between good and evil. Otherwise, how would I ever be able to rule this great people of yours?« ¹⁰ Jehovah was pleased that Solomon asked for this. ¹¹ He said to him: »Because you have asked for the wisdom to rule justly, instead of long life for yourself or riches or the death of your enemies, ¹² »I will do what you have asked. I will give you more wisdom and understanding than anyone has ever had. There has never been nor will ever be anyone like you. ¹³ »I will also give you what you did not ask for. All your life you will have wealth and honor, more than that of any other king.

ISV⁽ⁱ⁾ ⁵ The LORD appeared to Solomon one night in a dream and told him, “Ask me for whatever you want and I’ll give it to you.”
⁶ So Solomon said: “You have demonstrated abundant gracious love to your servant David, my father, as he lived in your presence truthfully, righteously, and uprightly in his heart. In addition, you have kept on showing this abundant gracious love by giving him a son to sit on his throne today. ⁷ Now, LORD my God, you have set me as king to replace my father David, but I’m still young. I don’t have any leadership skills. ⁸ Your servant lives in the midst of your people that you have chosen, a great people that is too numerous to be counted. ⁹ So give your servant an understanding mind to govern your people, so I can discern between good and evil. Otherwise, how will I be able to govern this great people of yours?”
¹⁰ The LORD was pleased that Solomon had asked for this, ¹¹ so God told him: “Because you asked for this, and you didn’t ask for a long life for yourself, and you didn’t ask for the lives of your enemies, but instead you’ve asked for discernment so you can understand how to govern, ¹² look how I’m going to do precisely what you asked. I’m giving you a wise and discerning mind, so that there will have been no one like you before you and no one will arise after you like you. ¹³ I’m also giving you what you haven’t requested: both riches and honor, so that no other king will be comparable to you during your lifetime.

E Iddio gli disse: Chiedi ciò che tu vuoi che io ti dia. ⁶ E Salomone disse: Tu hai usata gran benignità inverso Davide, mio padre, tuo servitore, siccome egli è camminato davanti a te in lealtà, ed in giustizia, e in dirittura di cuore verso te; e tu gli hai ancora riserbata questa gran benignità, che tu gli hai dato un figliuolo che siede sopra il suo trono, come oggi appare. ⁷ Ora dunque, Signore Iddio mio, tu hai costituito re me, tuo servitore, in luogo di Davide, mio padre; ed io sono un piccol fanciullo, e non so nè uscire nè entrare. ⁸ E il tuo servitore è in mezzo del tuo popolo che tu hai eletto, ch’è un popolo grande, il quale, per la moltitudine, non si può contare, nè annoverare. ⁹ Da’ dunque al tuo servitore un cuore intendente, per giudicare il tuo popolo, per discernere tra il bene ed il male; perciocchè, chi potrebbe giudicare questo tuo popolo ch’è in così gran numero? ¹⁰ E questo piacque al Signore, che Salomone avesse chiesta una tal cosa. ¹¹ E Iddio gli disse: Perciocchè tu hai chiesta questa cosa, e non hai chiesta lunga vita, nè ricchezze, nè la vita de’ tuoi nemici; anzi hai chiesto di avere intelletto per essere intendente a giudicare; ecco, io fo secondo la tua parola; ¹² ecco, io ti do un cuor savio ed intendente; talchè nè davanti a te è stato, nè dopo te sorgerà alcuno pari a te. ¹³ Ed oltre a ciò, io ti do quello che tu non mi hai chiesto, ricchezze e gloria; talchè fra i re non ne fu mai alcun tale, qual tu sarai tutto il tempo della tua vita.

E Dio gli disse: "Chiedi quello che vuoi ch’io ti dia". ⁶ Salomone rispose: "Tu hai trattato con gran benevolenza il tuo servo Davide, mio padre, perch’egli camminava dinanzi a te con fedeltà, con giustizia, con rettitudine di cuore a tuo riguardo; tu gli hai conservata questa gran benevolenza, e gli hai dato un figliuolo che siede sul trono di lui, come oggi avviene. ⁷ Ora, o Eterno, o mio Dio, tu hai fatto regnar me, tuo servo, in luogo di Davide mio padre, e io non sono che un giovanetto, e non so come condurmi; ⁸ e il tuo servo è in mezzo al popolo che tu hai scelto, popolo numeroso, che non può esser contato né calcolato, tanto è grande. ⁹ Da’ dunque al tuo servo un cuore intelligente ond’egli possa amministrar la giustizia per il tuo popolo e discernere il bene dal male; poiché chi mai potrebbe amministrar la giustizia per questo tuo popolo che è così numeroso?" ¹⁰ Piacque al Signore che Salomone gli avesse fatta una tale richiesta. ¹¹ E Dio gli disse: "Giacché tu hai domandato questo, e non hai chiesto per te lunga vita, né ricchezze, né la morte de’ tuoi nemici, ma hai chiesto intelligenza per poter discernere ciò ch’è giusto, ¹² ecco, io faccio secondo la tua parola; e ti do un cuor savio e intelligente, in guisa che nessuno è stato simile a te per lo innanzi, e nessuno sorgerà simile a te in appresso. ¹³ E oltre a questo io ti do quello che non hai domandato: ricchezze e gloria; talmente, che non vi sarà durante tutta la tua vita alcuno fra i re che possa esserti paragonato.
