Mace(i) 5 As for you that are young, be you submissive to those of a more advanc'd age: and do you all of you pay a becoming deference to one another: be cloak'd with humility, for " God opposes the proud, and shows favour to the humble." 6 submit yourselves therefore to the divine jurisdiction, that he may exalt you in due time. 7 refer all your disquietudes to him, for you are the objects of his care. 8 Be temperate, be vigilant: for your adversary the Devil goes about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 resist him by the steadiness of your faith, considering that your brethren among the Gentiles, suffer the same persecutions as you do. 10 but may the all-gracious God, who has called us to eternal glory, perfect, confirm, fortify, and settle you, during the short interval of your sufferings. 11 to him belongs eternal glory and empire. amen. 12 I formerly writ to you a short epistle, by Silvanus, I think, a faithful brother, to declare and testify to you, that the true dispensation of God is that to which you are attach'd.
Whiston(i) 5 Likewise ye younger, submit your selves unto the elder: yea, and all one with another, be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 6 Humble your selves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in the time of visitation. 7 Casting all your Care upon him, for he careth for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; Your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour. 9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith; knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the World. 10 But the God of all Grace, who hath called you unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, will make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle [you]. 11 To him [be] dominion for ever and ever. Amen, 12 By Silvanus a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying, that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.
Wesley(i) 5 In like manner, ye younger, submit yourselves to the elder, and be ye all subject to each other. Be ye cloathed with humility; for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 7 Watch: be vigilant: 8 for your adversary the devil, walketh about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist, stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 10 Now the God of all grace, who hath called us by Christ Jesus to his eternal glory, after ye have suffered a while, himself shall perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 11 To him be the glory and the might for ever and ever. Amen. 12 By Silvanus, a faithful brother, as I suppose, I have written briefly to you, exhorting and adding my testimony, that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand,
Worsley(i) 5 Likewise ye younger, be subject to the elder; and all of you behaving with due submission one to another, be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, but sheweth favor to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time; 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; for your adversary the devil, like a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 whom resist, stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are endured by your brethren in the world. 10 But may the God of all grace, who hath called us to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, after ye have suffered a little while, make you perfect, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 12 Thus I have written briefly by Silvanus, a faithful brother to you (as I judge) exhorting and testifying, that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.
Haweis(i) 5 In like manner, ye who are younger persons, be in subjection to your elders: but all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed from head to foot with humility: for God sets himself in opposition to the proud, but he giveth grace to the lowly. 6 Humble yourselves therefore beneath the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due season: 7 casting all your anxiety upon him; for he careth for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; for your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, prowleth around, seeking whom he may devour: 9 against whom stand fast, firm in the faith, knowing that the very same sufferings are fully endured by the brotherhood which is in the world. 10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, when ye have suffered a little while, himself perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 11 To him be glory and might for ever and ever. Amen. 12 By Silvanus, a faithful brother as I think, I have written to you a few words, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye are standing fast.
Thomson(i) 5 Likewise ye who are young, submit to those more advanced in years. And being all submissive to one another; adorn yourselves with humility; because "God resisteth the proud and granteth favour to the humble;" 6 therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may in due time exalt you. 7 Having cast all your care upon him, for he careth for you, 8 be sober, be watchful: because your adversary the devil is walking about, like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour, 9 him you should resist, standing firm in the faith, knowing that the same kind of sufferings are undergone by your brotherhood in the world. 10 Now may the God of all favour, who hath invited us to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, when we have suffered a little may he himself fit, support, strengthen and establish you! 11 To him be the glory and the power, for the ages of the ages. Amen. 12 By Sylvanus the faithful brother I have, as I reckon, written briefly to you, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true favour of God for which you stand up.
Webster(i) 5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves to the elder. Yes, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you. 11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 12 By Silvanus, a faithful brother to you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God in which ye stand.

Living_Oracles(i) 5 For the like reason, you younger persons subject yourselves to the seniors. Yes, all be subject to one another, and be clothed with humility, for God resists the proud but gives favor to the humble. 6 Be humbled, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. 7 Cast all your anxious care on him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant: your adversary, the devil, is walking about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour: 9 whom resist, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the very same sufferings are accomplished in your brethren, who are in the world. 10 And may the God of all favor, who has called us to his eternal glory, by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little, himself make you complete; support, strengthen, establish you: 11 to him be the glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 12 By Sylvanus, a faithful brother, (as I conclude,) I have written to you in few words, exhorting you, and strongly testifying that this is the true favor of God, in which you stand.
Etheridge(i) 5 And you younger, be subject to your presbyters, and be clothed carefully [Or, closely.] with humility of mind towards one another; because Aloha is against those who exalt themselves, and to the humble he giveth grace. 6 Be humbled, therefore, under the mighty hand of Aloha, that he may exalt you at the right time. 7 And all your anxiety cast upon Aloha, because he is careful over you. 8 Watch, and be mindful, because your adversary Satana, as a lion, roareth and walketh and seeketh whom he may devour. 9 Withstand him then, being confirmed in the faith; and know that upon your brethren also who are in the world, these same sufferings come. 10 But the God of grace, who hath called us to his eternal glory by Jeshu Meshiha, will give to us while we endure these few afflictions to be strengthened, and confirmed, and established in him for ever. 11 To Him be glory and dominion and honour unto the age of ages. Amen. 12 These few, as I consider, I have written to you by the hands of Silvanos, a faithful brother; and I persuade and testify, that this is the true grace of Aloha, this wherein you stand.
Murdock(i) 5 And ye juniors submit yourselves to your seniors; and clothe yourselves, stringently, with lowliness of mind one towards another; because God resisteth them who exalt themselves, and giveth grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the powerful hand of God: and it will exalt you in due time. 7 And cast all your solicitude upon God; for he careth for you. 8 Be sober and guarded, because Satan your adversary, like a lion, roareth, and goeth about, and seeketh whom he may devour. 9 Therefore resist him, being steadfast in the faith: and know ye, that the same sufferings befall your brethren that are in the world. 10 Now it is the God of grace, who hath called us to his eternal glory by Jesus the Messiah, that hath given us, while we sustain these light afflictions, to be strengthened, and confirmed, and established by him for ever: 11 to whom be glory, and power, and honor, for ever and ever. Amen. 12 These as I account them few things, I have written to you by Sylvanus, a faithful brother. And I would persuade, and would testify, that this is the true grace of God, this in which ye stand.
Sawyer(i) 5 (3:3) Let the younger in like manner be subject to the elder, and do you all be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility; for God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; 7 casting all your care upon him, for he cares for you. 8 (3:4) Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil goes about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour; 9 whom resist, firm in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are accomplished by your brothers in the world. 10 And may the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, when you have suffered a little while, himself make you perfect, confirm, strengthen, establish you. 11 To him be the glory and the power for ever; amen. 12 (3:5) I have written to you in a few words by Silvanus [Silas], a faithful brother as I suppose, exhorting you, and testifying that this is the true grace of God in which you stand.
Diaglott(i) 5 In like manner younger ones be you subject to seniors; all but to each other being subject, the humility be you clothed with; because the God to haughty ones is in opposition, to lowly ones but he gives favor. 6 Be you humbled therefore under the mighty hand of the God, so that you he may exalt in a season; 7 all the anxious care of you having cast on him, because with him is care concerning you. 8 Be you sober, be you watchful; the opponent of you an accuser, like a lion roaring, walks about seeking whom he may gulp down, 9 to whom be you opposed steadfast ones in the faith, knowing, the same kinds of the sufferings by the in world brotherhood to be fully endured. 10 The and God of all favor that one having called us into the age-lasting of himself glory by Anointed Jesus, a little having suffered, himself to complete you, he will confirm, he will strengthen, he will establish. 11 To him the glory, and the power for the ages of the ages; so be it. 12 By means of Silvanus to you of the faithful a brother, as I think, in a few I have written, exhorting and strongly testifying this to be true favor of the God, in which you have stood.
ABU(i) 5 In like manner, ye younger, submit yourselves to the elder. Yea, all of you submitting to one another, gird yourselves with humility; because, God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; 7 casting all your care upon him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the Devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour; 9 whom resist, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are being accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 10 But the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, after ye have suffered a little while, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you. 11 To him be the glory, and the dominion, forever and ever. Amen. 12 By Silvanus, the faithful brother, as I consider, I wrote to you in few words, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God, wherein ye stand.
Anderson(i) 5 Likewise, you younger, be in subjection to the older: do you all indeed be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resists the proud, but gives grace to the lowly. 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the strong hand of God, that he may exalt you in due season. 7 Cast all your cares on him, for he cares for you. 8 Be sober, be watchful: for your adversary, the devil, like a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Being firm in the faith, resist him, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren who are in the world. 10 But may the God of all grace, who has called us to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, confirm you. 11 To. him be glory and dominion from age to age. Amen. 12 By Sylvanus, a faithful brother to you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God in which you stand.
Noyes(i) 5 In like manner, ye younger men, submit yourselves to the elder; and all of you be clothed with humility toward each other; for "God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble." 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; 7 casting all your care upon him, because he careth for you. 8 Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the Devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour; 9 whom resist, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are being accomplished in your brethren in the world. 10 But the God of all grace, who called you to his everlasting glory in Christ Jesus, will, after ye have suffered a while, himself make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you. 11 To him be the dominion for ever. Amen. 12 By Silvanus, the faithful brother as I think, I have written to you in few words, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.
YLT(i) 5 In like manner, ye younger, be subject to elders, and all to one another subjecting yourselves; with humble-mindedness clothe yourselves, because God the proud doth resist, but to the humble He doth give grace; 6 be humbled, then, under the powerful hand of God, that you He may exalt in good time, 7 all your care having cast upon Him, because He careth for you.
8 Be sober, vigilant, because your opponent the devil, as a roaring lion, doth walk about, seeking whom he may swallow up, 9 whom resist, stedfast in the faith, having known the same sufferings to your brotherhood in the world to be accomplished.
10 And the God of all grace, who did call you to His age-during glory in Christ Jesus, having suffered a little, Himself make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you; 11 to Him is the glory, and the power—to the ages and the ages! Amen. 12 Through Silvanus, to you the faithful brother, as I reckon, through few words I did write, exhorting and testifying this to be the true grace of God in which ye have stood.
JuliaSmith(i) 5 Likewise, ye younger, be subjected to the elders. And all being subject to one another, be wrapped up in humility: for God opposes the proud, and gives grace to the humble. 6 Therefore be humbled under the strong hand of God, that he might lift you up) in due measure: 7 Having cast all your care upon him; for to him is the care for you. 8 Be abstemious, watch; for your adversary the accuser, as a roaring lion, walks around, seeking whom he might swallow down: 9 Whom resist firm in the faith, knowing that the same of sufferings are completed by your brotherhood in the world. 10 And the God of all grace, having called us to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, may he put you in proper order, having suffered a little time, may he support you, make firm, lay the foundation. 11 To him the glory and the strength for the time of times. Amen. 12 By Silvanus, to you the faithful brother, as I reckon, I wrote briefly, beseeching, and bearing testimony this to be the true grace of God in which ye stand.
Darby(i) 5 Likewise [ye] younger, be subject to [the] elder, and all of you bind on humility towards one another; for God sets himself against [the] proud, but to [the] humble gives grace. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in [the due] time; 7 having cast all your care upon him, for he cares about you. 8 Be vigilant, watch. Your adversary [the] devil as a roaring lion walks about seeking whom he may devour. 9 Whom resist, stedfast in faith, knowing that the selfsame sufferings are accomplished in your brotherhood which [is] in [the] world. 10 But the God of all grace who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, when ye have suffered for a little while, himself shall make perfect, stablish, strengthen, ground: 11 to him [be] the glory and the might for the ages of the ages. Amen. 12 By Silvanus, the faithful brother, as I suppose, I have written to you briefly; exhorting and testifying that this is [the] true grace of God in which ye stand.
ERV(i) 5 Likewise, ye younger, be subject unto the elder. Yea, all of you gird yourselves with humility, to serve one another: for God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; 7 casting all your anxiety upon him, because he careth for you. 8 Be sober, be watchful: your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 whom withstand stedfast in your faith, knowing that the same sufferings are accomplished in your brethren who are in the world. 10 And the God of all grace, who called you unto his eternal glory in Christ, after that ye have suffered a little while, shall himself perfect, stablish, strengthen you. 11 To him [be] the dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 12 By Silvanus, our faithful brother, as I account [him], I have written unto you briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God: stand ye fast therein.
ASV(i) 5 Likewise, ye younger, be subject unto the elder. 8 Be sober, be watchful: your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour, 9 whom withstand stedfast in your faith, knowing that the same sufferings are accomplished in your brethren who are in the world. 10 And the God of all grace, who called you unto his eternal glory in Christ, after that ye have suffered a little while, shall himself perfect, establish, strengthen you. 11 To him [be] the dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
12 By Silvanus, our faithful brother, as I account [him], I have written unto you briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God: stand ye fast therein.

JPS_ASV_Byz(i) 5 Likewise, ye younger, be subject unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another. Gird yourselves with humility, for God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your anxiety upon him, because he careth for you. 8 Be sober, be watchful; your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour, 9 whom withstand stedfast in your faith, knowing that the same sufferings are accomplished in your brethren who are in the world. 10 And may the God of all grace, who called us unto his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a little while, himself perfect you, established, strengthened, grounded. 11 To him be the glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 12 By Silvanus, our faithful brother, as I account him, I have written unto you briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.
Rotherham(i) 5 In like manner, ye younger men––submit yourselves unto elders; ––All, however, one towards another, gird on humility; because, God, against the haughty, arrayeth himself, whereas, unto the lowly, he giveth favour. 6 Be made lowly, therefore, under the strong hand of God, that he may lift, you, up in due time,–– 7 All your anxiety, casting upon him, because he careth for you.
8 Be sober! be watchful! Your slanderous adversary, as a roaring lion, is walking about––seeking to devour: 9 Whom resist, steadfast in your faith, knowing that, the same sufferings, in your brotherhood that is in the world, are being accomplished.
10 Howbeit, the God of all favour––who hath called you unto his age–abiding glory in Christ––when, for a little, ye have suffered, Himself, will adjust, confirm, strengthen:–– 11 Unto him, be the dominion, unto the ages. Amen! 12 By Silvanus, the faithful brother, as I account him, have I briefly written, unto you, exhorting and adding testimony––that, this, is the true favour of God––within which, stand ye fast!
Twentieth_Century(i) 5 Again, you younger men should show deference to the older. And all of you should put on the badge of humility in mutual service, for 'God is opposed to the proud, but gives his help to the humble.' 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you in his good time, 7 laying all your anxieties upon him, for he makes you his care. 8 Exercise self-control, be watchful. Your adversary, the Devil, like a roaring lion, is prowling about, eager to devour you. 9 Stand firm against him, strong in your faith; knowing, as you do, that the very sufferings which you are undergoing are being endured to the full by your Brotherhood throughout the world. 10 God, from whom all help comes, and who called you, by your union with Christ, into his eternal glory, will, when you have suffered for a little while, himself perfect, establish, strengthen you. 11 To him be ascribed dominion for ever. Amen. 12 I have been writing to you briefly by the hand of Silas, our true-hearted Brother (for so I regard him), to urge upon you, and to bear my testimony, that in what I have written is to be found the true love of God. On that take your stand.
Godbey(i) 5 Likewise, you younger men, submit to the elders: and all put on humility toward one another; because God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble. 6 Therefore humble yourselves beneath the mighty hand of God, that he may lift you up in due time: 7 having cast all your care upon him; because there is a care to him concerning you. 8 Be sober, watch. The devil is walking round like a roaring lion, seeking some one to devour: 9 whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that it is for you to complete the same sufferings in this world along with your brotherhood. 10 But the God of all grace, the one having called you into his own eternal glory in Christ, will himself make you perfect, having suffered a little while, will establish you, will strengthen you, will settle you. 11 To him is the power unto the age of the ages. Amen. 12 Through Silvanus, the faithful brother, as I consider, I have written unto you briefly, exhorting, and witnessing that this same grace of God is true in which you may stand.
WNT(i) 5 In the same way you younger men must submit to your elders; and all of you must gird yourselves with humility towards one another, for God sets Himself against the proud, but gives grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore beneath the mighty hand of God, so that at the right time He may set you on high. 7 Throw the whole of your anxiety upon Him, because He Himself cares for you. 8 Curb every passion, and be on the alert. Your great accuser, the Devil, is going about like a roaring lion to see whom he can devour. 9 Withstand him, firm in your faith; knowing that your brethren in other parts of the world are passing through just the same experiences. 10 And God, the giver of all grace, who has called you to share His eternal glory, through Christ, after you have suffered for a short time, will Himself make you perfect, firm, and strong. 11 To Him be all power unto the Ages of the Ages! Amen. 12 I send this short letter by Silas, our faithful brother--for such I regard him--in order to encourage you, and to bear witness that what I have told you is the true grace of God. In it stand fast.
Worrell(i) 5 Likewise, ye younger, be subject to the elder; yea, all of you gird on the lowly mind to serve one another; because "God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the lowly." 6 Be humbled, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due season; 7 having cast all your anxiety on Him, because He careth for you. 8 Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the Devil, as a roaring lion, is going about, seeking whom he may devour; 9 whom resist, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same kinds of sufferings are being accomplished in your brethren who are in the world. 10 And the God of all grace, Who called you into His everlasting glory in Christ, after ye have suffered a little while, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen, settle you. 11 To Him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen. 12 Through Sylvanus, our faithful brother, as I consider him, I wrote to you briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God; within which stand ye.
Moffatt(i) 5 You younger men must also submit to the presbyters. Indeed you must all put on the apron of humility to serve one another, for the haughty God opposes, but to the humble he gives grace. 6 Humble yourselves under the strong hand of God, then, so that when it is time, he may raise you; 7 let all your anxieties fall upon him, for his interest is in you. 8 Keep cool, keep awake. Your enemy the devil prowls like a roaring lion, looking out for someone to devour. 9 Resist him; keep your foothold in the faith, and learn to pay the same tax of suffering as the rest of your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 Once you have suffered for a little, the God of all grace who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will repair and recruit and strengthen you. 11 The dominion is his for ever and ever: Amen. 12 By the hand of Silvanus, a faithful brother (in my opinion), I have written you these few lines of encouragement, to testify that this is what the true grace of God means. Stand in that grace.
Goodspeed(i) 5 You younger men must show deference to the elders. And you must all clothe yourselves in humility toward one another, for God opposes the proud, but shows mercy to the humble. 6 Submit humbly, therefore, to God's mighty hand, so that he may in due time raise you up. 7 Throw all your anxiety upon him, for he cares for you. 8 Be calm and watchful. Your opponent the devil is prowling about like a roaring lion, wanting to devour you. 9 Resist him and be strong in the faith, for you know that your brotherhood all over the world is having the same experience of suffering. 10 And God, the giver of all mercy, who through your union with Christ has called you to his eternal glory, after you have suffered a little while will himself make you perfect, steadfast, and strong. 11 His be the dominion forever. Amen. 12 By Silvanus, our faithful brother, as I think him, I have written you this short letter to encourage you and bear my testimony that this is what the true mercy of God means. Stand fast in it.
Riverside(i) 5 In the same way you younger men must be subject to your elders. You all must put on the apron of humble service for one another. For God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves, then, under the mighty hand of God so that he may lift you up at the right time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him, for he cares for you. 8 Be sober, watch. Your enemy the Devil, like a roaring lion, goes about seeking some one to devour. 9 Resist him firm in the faith and knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being completed in your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 The God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little will equip, establish and strengthen you. 11 To him be power for the ages of the ages! Amen. 12 By Silvanus, your faithful brother, as I esteem him, I am writing to you briefly, to encourage you and to testify that this is the true grace of God. Take your stand in it.
MNT(i) 5 You younger men must submit to the presbyters; and all of you must put on the garment of humility and serve one another, for God resists the haughty, But gives grace to the humble. 6 So humble yourselves under God's mighty hand, so that he may exalt you in due time. 7 Cast all your care upon him, for he ever cares for you. 8 Be temperate, be vigilant; because your enemy, the devil, is prowling about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, knowing well that the same afflictions are being accomplished in your brothers that are in the world. 10 But the God of all grace, who has called us by Christ Jesus to share his eternal glory, will, after you have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 11 His is the dominion forever and ever; Amen. 12 By Sylvanus, a faithful brother of yours, as I suppose, I have written you briefly, to comfort you, and to testify that this is the true grace of God. In this stand fast.
Lamsa(i) 5 And you too, young people, submit yourselves to your elders; and clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your cares upon God; for he cares for you. 8 Be vigilant, and be cautious; because your adversary, the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Rise up, therefore, against him, as you are steadfast in the faith, knowing that your brethren who are in the world also suffered these same afflictions. 10 But the God of all grace, who has called us to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, whom God has given to us; will strengthen us to endure these little afflictions that we may be made steadfast and remain in him for ever. 11 To him be glory and dominion and honour for ever and ever. Amen. 12 By Sil-vaÆnus, a faithful brother, I have written you these things briefly according to my opinion, exhorting and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein you stand.
CLV(i) 5 Likewise, younger men may be subject to the elder, yet all wear the servile apron of humility with one another, for God "is resisting the proud, yet is giving grace to the humble." 6 Be humbled, then, under the mighty hand of God, that He should be exalting you in season, 7 tossing your entire worry on Him, for He is caring concerning you." 8 Be sober! Watch! For your plaintiff, the Adversary, is walking about as a roaring lion, seeking someone to swallow up;" 9 whom withstand, solid in the faith, having perceived the same sufferings being completed in your brotherhood in the world." 10 Now the God of all grace, Who calls you into His eonian glory in Christ, while briefly suffering, He will be adjusting, establishing, firming, founding you." 11 To Him be glory and might for the eons of the eons. Amen! 12 Through Silvanus, a faithful brother, as I am reckoning, I write briefly to you, entreating and deposing that this is the true grace of God, in which you are to stand."
Williams(i) 5 You younger men, on your part, must be submissive to the elders. And you must all put on the servant's apron of humility to one another, because God opposes the haughty but bestows His unmerited favor on the humble. 6 Therefore humbly submit to God's strong hand, so that at the proper time He may exalt you. 7 Cast every worry you have upon Him, because He cares for you. 8 Be calm and alert. Your opponent the devil is always prowling about like a roaring lion, trying to devour you. 9 Resist him and be strong in faith, because you know that your brotherhood all over the world is experiencing the same sort of sufferings. 10 And God, the giver of every spiritual blessing, who through your union with Christ has called you to His eternal glory, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself make you perfect, firm, and strong, 11 To Him be dominion forever. Amen. 12 By Silvanus, our faithful brother, as I regard him, I have written you this short letter, to encourage you and to testify that this is the true, unmerited favor of God. Stand firm in it.
BBE(i) 5 And in the same way, let the younger men be ruled by the older ones. Let all of you put away pride and make yourselves ready to be servants: for God is a hater of pride, but he gives grace to those who make themselves low. 6 For this cause make yourselves low under the strong hand of God, so that when the time comes you may be lifted up; 7 Putting all your troubles on him, for he takes care of you. 8 Be serious and keep watch; the Evil One, who is against you, goes about like a lion with open mouth in search of food; 9 Do not give way to him but be strong in your faith, in the knowledge that your brothers who are in the world undergo the same troubles. 10 And after you have undergone pain for a little time, the God of all grace who has given you a part in his eternal glory through Christ Jesus, will himself give you strength and support, and make you complete in every good thing; 11 His is the power for ever. So be it. 12 I have sent you this short letter by Silvanus, a true brother, in my opinion; comforting you and witnessing that this is the true grace of God; keep to it.
MKJV(i) 5 Likewise, younger ones, be subject to older ones, and all being subject to one another. Put on humility. For God resists proud ones, but He gives grace to the humble. 6 Therefore be humbled under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your anxiety onto Him, for He cares for you. 8 Be sensible and vigilant, because your adversary the Devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking someone he may devour; 9 whom firmly resist in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions in the world are being completed in your brotherhood. 10 But the God of all grace, He calling us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little, He will perfect, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To Him be the glory and the might forever and ever. Amen. 12 I wrote to you through a few words, by Silvanus, a faithful brother to you, as I suppose, exhorting and testifying this to be the true grace of God in which you stand.
LITV(i) 5 Likewise, younger ones be subject to older ones; and all being subject to one another. Put on humility, because God sets Himself "against proud ones, but He gives grace to humble ones." Prov. 3:34 6 Then be humbled under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in time; 7 "casting all your anxiety onto Him," because it matters to Him concerning you. LXX-Psa. 54:23; MT-Psa. 55:22 8 Be sensible, watch, because your adversary the Devil walks about as a roaring lion seeking someone he may devour; 9 whom firmly resist in the faith, knowing the same sufferings are being completed in your brotherhood in the world. 10 Now the God of all grace, the One calling you to His eternal glory in Christ Jesus, you having suffered a little, He Himself will perfect, confirm, strengthen, establish you . 11 To Him be the glory and the might forever and ever. Amen. 12 I wrote to you by a few words by way of Silvanus the faithful brother, as I reckon, exhorting and witnessing this to be the true grace of God, in which you stand.
ECB(i) 5 Likewise, younger: subjugate yourselves to the elder. Yes, all subjugate to one another and enrobe with humblemindedness: because Elohim opposes the proud and gives charism to the humble. 6 So humble yourselves under the powerful hand of Elohim, so that he exalts you in season: 7 tossing all your anxiety upon him; because he is concerned about you. 8 Sober! Watch! - because your adversary, Diabolos, as a roaring lion, walks around seeking whom to swallow: 9 whom withstand solid in the trust, knowing that the same sufferings are completed/shalamed in your brotherhood in the cosmos. 10 And the Elohim of all charism, who calls us to his eternal glory in Messiah Yah Shua, after you suffer a little, prepare you, establish, invigorate, foundation you. 11 To him be glory and dominion to the eons of the eons. Amen. 12
FINAL SALUTES
Through Silvanus your trustworthy brother, I reckon that I scribed through few words, beseeching and witnessing that this wherein you stand is the true charism of Elohim.
AUV(i) 5 And in the same way, you younger [Christians] should be [respectfully] submissive to the older ones. And all of you should [be willing to] humbly serve one another, for God stands opposed to [the efforts of] proud people, but extends His unearned favor to those [who serve] with humility. 6 Therefore, be humble [in your actions] before God’s powerful authority, so that you may be exalted [by Him] at the proper time. 7 Place all your anxious cares upon God [in prayer], because He genuinely cares about you. 8 Be sensible and alert; your enemy the devil is prowling around like a roaring [i.e., hungry] lion looking for someone to [kill and] eat. 9 You should withstand his efforts by maintaining a strong faith [in God], remembering that your [Christian] brothers in [the rest of] the world are experiencing [and enduring] suffering similar to yours. 10 And the God who bestows every unearned favor [upon His people], who invited you to partake of His eternal splendor through Christ Jesus, will restore, confirm, strengthen and stabilize you people [in the faith], after you have gone through a brief time of suffering. 11 May God have total authority over everything [including your circumstances] forever. May it be so. 12 This brief message is being inscribed [or delivered] by Silvanus, whom I consider to be a faithful brother. [In it] I am exhorting you and giving testimony that it is a message about God’s genuine unearned favor upon you. So, continue to follow [and obey] what it says.
ACV(i) 5 Likewise younger men should be subordinate to the elder men. And all being subordinate to each other, clothe yourselves with humility, because God sets himself against the haughty, but gives grace to the lowly. 6 Therefore be lowered under the mighty hand of God, so that he may lift you up in time, 7 having cast all your concern upon him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant. Your opponent the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about seeking whom to devour. 9 Whom resist, steadfast in the faith, knowing the same sufferings are to be accomplished in the world by your brotherhood. 10 And may the God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus (after suffering a little while) himself thoroughly prepare you. He will establish, strengthen, and provide a foundation. 11 To him is the glory and the dominion into the ages of the ages. Truly. 12 By Silvanus, the faithful brother to you, as I reckon, I wrote because of a few things, exhorting and testifying this to be the true grace of God in which ye stand.
Common(i) 5 Likewise you that are younger men be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble." 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober, be alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, establish, and strengthen you. 11 To him be the dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 12 With the help of Silvanus, a faithful brother as I regard him, I have written to you briefly, exhorting you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it.
WEB(i) 5 Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility, to subject yourselves to one another; for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Withstand him steadfast in your faith, knowing that your brothers who are in the world are undergoing the same sufferings. 10 But may the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. 11 To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen. 12 Through Silvanus, our faithful brother, as I consider him, I have written to you briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God in which you stand.

RYLT(i) 5 In like manner, you younger, be subject to elders, and all to one another subjecting yourselves; with humble-mindedness clothe yourselves, because God the proud does resist, but to the humble He does give grace; 6 be humbled, then, under the powerful hand of God, that you He may exalt in good time, 7 all your care having cast upon Him, because He cares for you. 8 Be sober, vigilant, because your opponent the devil, as a roaring lion, does walk about, seeking whom he may swallow up, 9 whom resist, stedfast in the faith, having known the same sufferings to your brotherhood in the world to be accomplished. 10 And the God of all grace, who did call you to His age-during glory in Christ Jesus, having suffered a little, Himself make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you; 11 to Him is the glory, and the power -- to the ages and the ages! Amen. 12 Through Silvanus, to you the faithful brother, as I reckon, through few words I did write, exhorting and testifying this to be the true grace of God in which you have stood.
EJ2000(i) 5 ¶ Likewise, young people, be subject to the elders in such a manner that you are all subject to one another. Be clothed with humility of will, for God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your cares upon him, for he cares for you. 8 ¶ Be temperate and vigilant because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour, 9 resist him steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are to be accomplished in the company of your brethren that are in the world. 10 ¶ But the God of all grace, who has called us unto his eternal glory by Jesus, the Christ, after ye have suffered a little while, he himself perfects, confirms, strengthens, and establishes you. 11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 12 By Silvanus, a faithful brother; (according to my reckoning), I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God in which ye stand.
CAB(i) 5 Likewise, younger people, subject yourselves to the elders. And all of you be subject to one another, and be clothed with humility, because "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares about you. 8 Be sober, be watchful; your adversary the devil walks about as a roaring lion, seeking someone he may devour. 9 Resist him, being steadfast in your faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But may the God of all grace, the One having called you into His eternal glory in Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little while, may He Himself make you complete--He will establish, strengthen, and firmly ground you. 11 To Him be the glory and the power, forever and ever. Amen. 12 By Silvanus the faithful brother, as I consider him, I have written to you briefly, exhorting and testifying this to be the true grace of God in which you stand.
WPNT(i) 5 Similarly, you younger ones, submit to elders. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility, submitting to one another, because ‘God resists proud ones, but gives grace to humble ones’. 6 Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time; 7 casting all your care upon Him, because He does the caring for you. 8 Be sober, stay alert! Because your enemy the devil, like a roaring lion, is circling you, looking for someone to devour; 9 withstand him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 Now may the God of all grace, who called you into His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, Himself perfect, establish, strengthen and ground you—after you have suffered a while. 11 To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. 12 I have written to you briefly by our faithful brother Silvanus, as I consider him, exhorting and testifying that this is the true grace of God in which you stand.
JMNT(i) 5 Likewise (or: In like manner), you younger people be humbly placed, arranged and aligned by (or: subjected for support to) older folks. Yet all of you folks (or: everyone) tie on yourselves, as an outer garment (like a slave's apron), the humble attitude (the lowliness of thinking) to one another [other MSS add: continuously being ones that are humbly aligned], because "God habitually sets Himself in opposition, being resistant to those who try to appear conspicuously above others (to haughty and proud ones), yet He constantly gives grace and favor to humble (or: lowly) folks." [Prov. 3:34] 6 Let yourselves be made humble (or: lowly), then, under God's strong hand – so that He can (or: would) at some point lift you up (or: may elevate or exalt you folks) within a fitting situation (or: in [the] proper appointed-season; in the center of a fertile moment) – 7 while throwing (or: tossing) your entire concern (whole worry; every anxiety) upon Him, because He constantly cares about and takes an interest around you folks! 8 Be sober (or: clear headed)! Be awake, alert and watch! Your barrier in the Way pointed out (your road hazard; your opponent at court; the one "in your face" opposing your fairness and equity), one who casts or thrusts something through the midst of folks (e.g., like a soldier casting a javelin or thrusting a sword through someone, or a person throwing an issue through the midst of a group, causing division; or: a slanderer), as a constantly roaring lion, is continuously walking about, incessantly seeking to drink something or someone down (or: searching to gulp and swallow someone down), [comment: this path-hazard and road barrier may have been local religions, cultural or political opposition, or a spirit of contrariness] 9 to whom take a stand against (withstand; set yourself in opposition), [being] strong (firm; compact) ones in (or: by) the faith, trust and loyalty – [being] folks having seen and thus knowing about these same experiences and sufferings [that] are to repeatedly and progressively bring the goal upon (bring perfection upon; accomplish maturity upon) your brotherhood within the dominating arrangement of the System (or: in the midst of the secular realm; or: in the ordered world of religion, economy, culture and government). 10 Now the God of all grace and favor (or: the God whose character and quality is all grace and favor; the God Who is every grace and joyous favor), the One calling (or: inviting) you folks – ones experiencing a little and briefly suffering – into His eonian glory (His glory and reputation which has the quality and characteristics pertaining to the realm of the Age and which continues on into an unseen and indefinite time) within Christ Jesus [with other MSS: in union with the Anointed One (= the Messiah)], the Same One (or: He) will continue getting [things, or, you] down and prepare [them, or, you] (or: repair [them; you]; fit, knit or adjust [them; you] thoroughly), will continue setting [things; you] fast and establish [them; you], will continue imparting strength (will make [things; you] strong), [and] will progressively set a base upon which to ground and found [things and you]: 11 the strength (or: might) [to do these things is] in Him and by Him, on into the ages. It is so (Count on it)! [other MSS: the glory and the strength {is} in Him, on into the superlative times of the ages (or: the ages of the ages)] 12 Through Silvanus (or: Silas), the faithful and loyal brother who is full of trust, as I continue logically thinking and considering, I write through means of a few [thoughts, lines, or, words; p72 reads: through a short {letter}], persistently calling [you] alongside to encourage, comfort and aid [you], as well as constantly bearing a full witness and adding evidence of this continuing to be God's true (and: real) grace and favor, into which you folks should set yourselves to take a stand (or, as an imperative: into which, [enter] and stand firm!).
NSB(i) 5 Likewise, you younger men, be subject to the older men. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility and serve one another. God resists the proud, but gives loving kindness to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you at the proper time. 7 Throw all your anxiety upon him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober, be watchful: your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion walks about, seeking whom he may devour (consume). 9 Stand firm in your faith, knowing that the same sufferings are accomplished in your brothers in the world. 10 After you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will perfect, establish, and strengthen you. 11 To him is the dominion forever and ever. Amen. 12 By Silvanus, our faithful brother, as I account him, I have written to you briefly, exhorting and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast.
ISV(i) 5 Be Humble and AlertIn a similar way, you young people must submit to the elders. All of you must clothe yourselves with humility for the sake of each other, because: “God opposes the arrogant, but gives grace to the humble.” 6 Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that at the proper time he may exalt you. 7 Throw all your worry on him, because he cares for you. 8 Be clear-minded and alert. Your opponent, the devil, is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him and be firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering. 10 After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you by the Messiah Jesus to his eternal glory, will restore you, establish you, strengthen you, and support you. 11 Power belongs to him forever and ever! 12 Final GreetingThrough Silvanus, whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have written this short letter to encourage you and to testify that this is to be the true grace of God in which you are to stand firm!
LEB(i) 5 In the same way, younger men, be subject to the elders, and all of you clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you at the right time, 7 casting all your cares on him, because he cares* for you. 8 Be sober; be on the alert. Your adversary the devil walks around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him*, steadfast in your* faith, because you* know the same kinds of sufferings are being accomplished by your community of believers in the world. 10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ,* after you* have suffered for a short time, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the power forever and ever*.* Amen. 12 Through Silvanus, the faithful brother (as I consider him), I have written to you briefly* to encourage you and to attest that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it.

BLB(i) 5 Likewise, younger ones, be subject to your elders. And all, gird on humility one to another, because, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” 6 Be humbled therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you in due time, 7 having cast all your anxiety upon Him, because with Him there is care about you. 8 Be sober-minded; watch. Your adversary the devil prowls about as a roaring lion seeking whom to devour, 9 whom you should resist, firm in the faith, knowing the same sufferings to be accomplished in your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And the God of all grace, the One having called you to His eternal glory in Christ, of you having suffered a little while, He Himself will perfect, will confirm, will strengthen, and will establish you. 11 To Him be the power to the ages of the ages. Amen. 12 Through Silvanus, the faithful brother as I regard him, I have written to you through few words, exhorting and testifying this to be the true grace of God, in which you stand.

Amen. 12 Through Silvanus, whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have written to you briefly, encouraging you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it.

MLV(i) 5 Likewise, the younger ones, be subject to the elder ones. But all of you be subject to one another, clothe yourselves with humility, because ‘God resists the haughty, but is giving grace to the humble.’ 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the powerful hand of God, in order that he may exalt you in time; 7 having tossed forth all your anxiety upon him, because there is care concerning you with him. 8 Be sober! Watch! Your opponent, the devil, like a roaring lion, is walking around seeking whom he may swallow, 9 to whom, stand against, solid in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are to be completed in the world by your brotherhood. 10 But the God of all grace, who called you to his everlasting glory in Christ Jesus, when you have suffered a small time, he himself may frame you up, will establish, will strengthen and will found you. 11 The glory and the dominion is to him, forevermore.

Indonesian(i) 5 Begitu juga Saudara, orang-orang muda.

Amen. 12 Med Silvanus, den trofaste bror - det holder jeg ham for - skriver jeg kortelig til eder for å formane og vidne at dette er Guds sanne nåde som I står i.
Romanian(i) 5 Tot aşa şi voi, tinerilor, fiţi supuşi celor bătrîni.
