Ἰάκωβος θεοῦ καὶ κυρίου Ἰησοῦ χριστοῦ δοῦλος ταῖς δώδεκα φυλαῖς ταῖς ἐν τῇ διασπορᾷ, χαίρειν. 2 Πᾶσαν χαρὰν ἡγήσασθε, ἀδελφοί μου, ὅταν πειρασμοῖς περιπέσητε ποικίλοις, 3 γινώσκοντες ὅτι τὸ δοκίμιον ὑμῶν τῆς πίστεως κατεργάζεται ὑπομονήν· 4 ἡ δὲ ὑπομονὴ ἔργον τέλειον ἐχέτω, ἵνα ἦτε τέλειοι καὶ ὁλόκληροι, ἐν μηδενὶ λειπόμενοι. 5 εἰ δέ τις ὑμῶν λείπεται σοφίας, αἰτείτω παρὰ τοῦ διδόντος θεοῦ πᾶσιν ἁπλῶς καὶ μὴ ὀνειδίζοντος, καὶ δοθήσεται αὐτῷ. 6 αἰτείτω δὲ ἐν πίστει, μηδὲν διακρινόμενος· ὁ γὰρ διακρινόμενος ἔοικεν κλύδωνι θαλάσσης ἀνεμιζομένῳ καὶ ῥιπιζομένῳ. 7 μὴ γὰρ οἰέσθω ὁ ἄνθρωπος ἐκεῖνος, ὅτι λήμψεταί τι παρὰ τοῦ κυρίου. 8 ἀνὴρ δίψυχος ἀκατάστατος ἐν πάσαις ταῖς ὁδοῖς αὐτοῦ. 9 καυχάσθω δὲ ὁ ἀδελφὸς ὁ ταπεινὸς ἐν τῷ ὕψει αὐτοῦ, 10 ὁ δὲ πλούσιος ἐν τῇ ταπεινώσει αὐτοῦ, ὅτι ὡς ἄνθος χόρτου παρελεύσεται. 11 ἀνέτειλεν γὰρ ὁ ἥλιος σὺν τῷ καύσωνι, καὶ ἐξήρανεν τὸν χόρτον, καὶ τὸ ἄνθος αὐτοῦ ἐξέπεσεν καὶ ἡ εὐπρέπεια τοῦ προσώπου αὐτοῦ ἀπώλετο· οὕτως καὶ ὁ πλούσιος ἐν ταῖς πορείαις αὐτοῦ μαρανθήσεται. 12 μακάριος ἀνὴρ ὃς ὑπομένει πειρασμόν, ὅτι δόκιμος γενόμενος λήμψεται τὸν στέφανον τῆς ζωῆς, ὃν ἐπηγγείλατο τοῖς ἀγαπῶσιν αὐτόν. 13 μηδεὶς πειραζόμενος λεγέτω ὅτι Ἀπὸ θεοῦ πειράζομαι· ὁ γὰρ θεὸς ἀπείραστός ἐστιν κακῶν, πειράζει δὲ αὐτὸς οὐδένα· 14 ἕκαστος δὲ πειράζεται ὑπὸ τῆς ἰδίας ἐπιθυμίας ἐξελκόμενος καὶ δελεαζόμενος· 15 εἶτα ἡ ἐπιθυμία συλλαβοῦσα τίκτει ἁμαρτίαν, ἡ δὲ ἁμαρτία ἀποτελεσθεῖσα ἀποκύει θάνατον. 16
Μὴ πλανᾶσθε, ἀδελφοί μου ἀγαπητοί· 17 πᾶσα δόσις ἀγαθὴ καὶ πᾶν δώρημα τέλειον ἄνωθέν ἐστιν καταβαῖνον ἀπὸ τοῦ πατρὸς τῶν φώτων, παρ̕ ᾧ οὐκ ἔνι παραλλαγὴ ἢ τροπῆς ἀποσκίασμα. 18 βουληθεὶς ἀπεκύησεν ἡμᾶς λόγῳ ἀληθείας, εἰς τὸ εἶναι ἡμᾶς ἀπαρχήν τινα τῶν αὐτοῦ κτισμάτων. 19
Ἴστε, ἀδελφοί μου ἀγαπητοί· ἔστω δὲ πᾶς ἄνθρωπος ταχὺς εἰς τὸ ἀκοῦσαι, βραδὺς εἰς τὸ λαλῆσαι, βραδὺς εἰς ὀργήν. 20 ὀργὴ γὰρ ἀνδρὸς δικαιοσύνην θεοῦ οὐκ ἐργάζεται. 21 διὸ ἀποθέμενοι πᾶσαν ῥυπαρίαν καὶ περισσείαν κακίας ἐν πραΰτητι δέξασθε τὸν ἔμφυτον λόγον τὸν δυνάμενον σῶσαι τὰς ψυχὰς ὑμῶν. 22 γίνεσθε δὲ ποιηταὶ λόγου, καὶ μὴ ἀκροαταὶ μόνον παραλογιζόμενοι ἑαυτούς. 23 ὅτι εἴ τις ἀκροατὴς λόγου ἐστὶν καὶ οὐ ποιητής, οὗτος ἔοικεν ἀνδρὶ κατανοοῦντι τὸ πρόσωπον τῆς γενέσεως αὐτοῦ ἐν ἐσόπτρῳ· 24 κατενόησεν γὰρ ἑαυτὸν καὶ ἀπελήλυθεν καὶ εὐθέως ἐπελάθετο ὁποῖος ἦν. 25 ὁ δὲ παρακύψας εἰς νόμον τέλειον τὸν τῆς ἐλευθερίας καὶ παραμείνας, οὐκ ἀκροατὴς ἐπιλησμονῆς γενόμενος ἀλλὰ ποιητὴς ἔργου, οὗτος μακάριος ἐν τῇ ποιήσει αὐτοῦ ἔσται. 26
Εἴ τις δοκεῖ θρῆσκος εἶναι, μὴ χαλιναγωγῶν γλῶσσαν αὐτοῦ ἀλλὰ ἀπατῶν καρδίαν αὐτοῦ, τούτου μάταιος ἡ θρησκεία. 27 θρησκεία καθαρὰ καὶ ἀμίαντος παρὰ τῷ θεῷ καὶ πατρὶ αὕτη ἐστίν, ἐπισκέπτεσθαι ὀρφανοὺς καὶ χήρας ἐν τῇ θλίψει αὐτῶν, ἄσπιλον ἑαυτὸν τηρεῖν ἀπὸ τοῦ κόσμου.
13 Let no one when tempted say, I am tempted of God. For God cannot be tempted by evil, neither doth he tempt any one. 14 But every one is tempted by his own desire, when allured and ensnared. 15 In that case desire having conceived, bringeth forth sin, and sin, when grown up, produceth death. 16 Be not led astray, my beloved brethren: 17 Every good donation, and every perfect gift, is from above, and cometh down from the father of lights, with whom there is no change, nor shadow of turning. 18 Of his own will he hath impregnated us with a word of truth, that we may be a kind of first fruits of his creatures. 19 Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: 20 for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. 21 Therefore having thrown off all the filth and scum of wickedness, receive with meekness the implanted word which is able to save your souls; 22 and be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man viewing his natural face in a glass. 24 For having viewed himself, and gone away, he instantly forgot what manner of person he was. 25 But whosoever hath looked carefully into the perfect law of this liberty, and continued therein; he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of work, shall by his doing be happy. 26 If any one among you thinketh to be religious without bridling his tongue, he is but deceiving his heart. Such a one's religion is vain. 27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and father is this, to take the oversight and care of orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep one's self unspotted from the world.
2 All joy count it, my brethren, when ye may fall into temptations manifold; 3 knowing that the proof of your faith doth work endurance, 4 and let the endurance have a perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire—in nothing lacking; 5 and if any of you do lack wisdom, let him ask from God, who is giving to all liberally, and not reproaching, and it shall be given to him; 6 and let him ask in faith, nothing doubting, for he who is doubting hath been like a wave of the sea, driven by wind and tossed, 7 for let not that man suppose that he shall receive anything from the Lord— 8 a two-souled man is unstable in all his ways. 9 And let the brother who is low rejoice in his exaltation, 10 and the rich in his becoming low, because as a flower of grass he shall pass away; 11 for the sun did rise with the burning heat, and did wither the grass, and the flower of it fell, and the grace of its appearance did perish, so also the rich in his way shall fade away! 12 Happy the man who doth endure temptation, because, becoming approved, he shall receive the crown of the life, which the Lord did promise to those loving Him.
13 Let no one say, being tempted—`From God I am tempted,' for God is not tempted of evil, and Himself doth tempt no one, 14 and each one is tempted, by his own desires being led away and enticed, 15 afterward the desire having conceived, doth give birth to sin, and the sin having been perfected, doth bring forth death. 16 Be not led astray, my brethren beloved; 17 every good giving, and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the lights, with whom is no variation, or shadow of turning; 18 having counselled, He did beget us with a word of truth, for our being a certain first-fruit of His creatures.
19 So then, my brethren beloved, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger, 20 for the wrath of a man the righteousness of God doth not work; 21 wherefore having put aside all filthiness and superabundance of evil, in meekness be receiving the engrafted word, that is able to save your souls; 22 and become ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves, 23 because, if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, this one hath been like to a man viewing his natural face in a mirror, 24 for he did view himself, and hath gone away, and immediately he did forget of what kind he was; 25 and he who did look into the perfect law—that of liberty, and did continue there, this one—not a forgetful hearer becoming, but a doer of work—this one shall be happy in his doing. 26 If any one doth think to be religious among you, not bridling his tongue, but deceiving his heart, of this one vain is the religion; 27 religion pure and undefiled with the God and Father is this, to look after orphans and widows in their tribulation—unspotted to keep himself from the world.

5 But if any of you lacketh wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing doubting: for he that doubteth is like the surge of the sea driven by the wind and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord; 8 a doubleminded man, unstable in all his ways.
9 But let the brother of low degree glory in his high estate: 10 and the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. 11 For the sun ariseth with the scorching wind, and withereth the grass; and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his goings.
12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he hath been approved, he shall receive the crown of life, which [the Lord] promised to them that love him. 13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempteth no man: 14 but each man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then the lust, when it hath conceived, beareth sin: and the sin, when it is fullgrown, bringeth forth death. 16 Be not deceived, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, neither shadow that is cast by turning. 18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
19 Ye know [this], my beloved brethren. But let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: 20 for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. 21 Wherefore putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deluding your own selves. 23 For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror: 24 for he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25 But he that looketh into the perfect law, the [law] of liberty, and [so] continueth, being not a hearer that forgetteth but a doer that worketh, this man shall be blessed in his doing. 26 If any man thinketh himself to be religious, while he bridleth not his tongue but deceiveth his heart, this man's religion is vain. 27 Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, [and] to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
2 All Joy, account it, my brethren, whensoever ye fall in with, manifold, temptations,–– 3 Taking note, that, the proving of your faith, worketh out endurance; 4 But let, your endurance, have, mature work, that ye may be mature and complete, in nothing, coming short. 5 But, if any of you is sinning short of wisdom, let him be asking of God, Who giveth unto all freely and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him; 6 But let him be asking in faith, nothing, doubting, for, he that doubteth, is like a wave of the sea, wind–driven and storm–tossed,–– 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive anything from the Lord–– 8 A two–souled man, unstable in all his ways. 9 But boasting be the lowly brother in his uplifting; 10 Whereas the rich, in his being brought low,––because, as a flower of grass, he will pass away; 11 For the sun hath sprung up, with it scorching heat, and hath withered the grass, and, the flower thereof, hath fallen out, and, the beauty of the face thereof, hath perished,––so, also the rich, in his goings, shall languish. 12 Happy the man who endureth temptation! Because, becoming approved, he shall receive the crown of life––which he hath promised unto them that love him.
13 Let, no one, while tempted, be saying––From God, am I tempted,––for, God, cannot be tempted by things evil, and, himself, tempteth no one; 14 But, each one, is tempted, when, by his own coveting, he is drawn out and enticed, 15 Then, the coveting, having conceived, giveth birth to sin, and, the sin, when full–grown, bringeth forth death. 16 Be not deceived, my brethren beloved:–– 17 Every good giving, and every perfect gift, is, from above, coming down from the Father of lights––with whom is no alternation, nor shadow cast, by turning: 18 Because he was so minded, he hath brought us forth with a word of truth, to the end we should be a sort of firstfruit of his creatures
19 Ye know, my brethren beloved,––but let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger, 20 For, man’s anger, worketh not, God’s righteousness. 21 Wherefore, putting away all filthiness and overflow of baseness, in meekness, welcome ye the word fitted for inward growth, which is able to save your souls: 22 Become ye doers of the word, and not hearers only––reasoning yourselves astray; 23 Because, if any is, a word–hearer, and not a doer, the same, is like unto a man observing his natural face in a mirror,–– 24 For he observed himself, and is gone away, and, straightway, it hath escaped him,––what manner of man, he was! 25 But, he that hath obtained a nearer view into the perfect law of liberty, and hath taken up his abode by it, becoming––not a forgetful hearer, but a work doer, the same, happy in his doing, shall be. 26 If any thinketh he is observant of religion, not curbing his own tongue, but deceiving his own heart, this one’s, religious observance is, vain: 27 Religious observance, pure and undefiled with our God and Father, is, this––to be visiting orphans and widows in their affliction, unspotted, to keep, himself, from the world.

TRUST AND TESTINGS
My brothers, deem it all cheer when you fall into divers testings; 3 knowing that the proofing of your trust works endurance: 4 and endurance have a work of completion/shalom so that you are complete/at shalom and whole - lacking naught. 5 If any of you lack wisdom, ask of Elohim who gives liberally to all and reproaches not - and he is given. 6 But ask in trust, doubting naught. For whoever doubts resembles a surge of the sea windtossed and tossed. 7 For suppose not that such a human takes aught of Adonay. 8 A double-souled man is unstable in all his ways. 9 But the brother of humbleness boasts in his exaltation; 10 and the rich in his humiliation: because he passes as the blossom of the herbage. 11 For the sun rises with a scorch and withers the grass; and the blossom falls and destructs the befittingness of its face: thus also the rich fades in his ways. 12 Blessed - the man who endures testing: because being approved he takes the wreath of life - which Adonay pre-evangelized to them who love him. 13 Word not, when tested, Because I am tested of Elohim: for Elohim is neither tested with evil nor tests anyone: 14 but each is tested when he is enticed of his own panting and entrapped. 15 Then when panting conceives, it births sin: and when sin completes/shalams, it breeds death. 16 Wander not, my beloved brothers. 17 Every gratuity of good and every gratuity of completion/shalom is from above; and descends from the Father of lights - with whom is neither changeableness nor shadow of turning. 18 Of his own will he bred us with the word of truth - to be some firstlings of his creatures. 19 So then, my beloved brothers, thus be every human: quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: 20 For the wrath of man works not the justness of Elohim. 21 So put away all foulness and superabundance of malice; and in meekness receive the implanted word which is able to save your souls: 22 and become doers of the word and not only hearers - deluding your own selves. 23 Because if any be a hearer of the word and not a doer, he resembles a man perceiving his genetic face in a mirror: 24 for he perceives himself - and goes - and straightway forgets what manner he is. 25 But whoever looks into the torah of completion/shalom of liberty and abides therein, not being a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one becomes blessed in his doing. 26 If anyone among you thinks himself as being ceremonious and bridles not his tongue but deludes his own heart - the ceremony of this man is vain. 27 Pure and unpolluted ceremony with Elohim and the Father is this: To scope out the orphans and widows in their tribulation and to guard himself unstained from the cosmos.

5 Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to everyone generously without a rebuke, and it will be given to him. 6 But he must ask in faith, without any doubts, for the one who has doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 Such a person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 He is a double-minded man, unstable in all he undertakes.
9 A brother of humble means should rejoice in his having been exalted, 10 and a rich person in his having been humbled, because he will fade away like a wild flower. 11 For the sun comes up with its scorching heat and dries up the grass. The flower in it drops off, and its beauty is gone. That is how the rich person will fade away in his pursuits.

19 You must understand this, my dear brothers. Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. 20 For human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. 21 Therefore, rid yourselves of everything impure and every expression of wickedness, and with a gentle spirit welcome the word planted in you that can save your souls.
22 Keep on being obedient to the word, and not merely being hearers who deceive themselves. 23 For if anyone hears the word but is not obedient to it, he is like a man who looks at himself in a mirror 24 and studies himself carefully, and then goes off and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But the one who looks at the perfect law of freedom and remains committed to it—thereby demonstrating that he is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of what that law requires—will be blessed in what he does.
26 If anyone thinks that he is religious and does not bridle his tongue, but instead deceives himself, his religion is worthless. 27 A religion that is pure and stainless according to God the Father is this: to take care of orphans and widows who are suffering, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

For he who is doubting himself resembles a wave of the sea being blown by the wind and tossed around. 7 For do not let that man assume that he will be receiving anything from the Lord– 8 an indecisive man is restless in all his ways.
9 But let the humble brother boast in his elevation, 10 but the rich brother in his humbleness, because like the flower of the grass, he will be passing away. 11 For the sun has risen together with the burning heat, and dried up the grass, and its flower fell and the beauty of its face perished. So shall the rich man also fade away in his pursuits.
12 The fortunate man who is enduring temptation, because having become approved, he will be receiving the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love him. 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted by God, for God is not temptable from evils, and he himself tempts no one. 14 But each person is tempted, when he is pulled away and enticed by his own lust. 15 Thereafter when this lust has conceived, it bears sin, and sin, when it has matured, gives-birth to death. 16 Do not be misled, my beloved brethren!
17 Every good act of giving, and every complete gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no change, nor a shadow of turning. 18 Having willed it, he gave-birth to us with the word of truth, that we might be a certain first-fruit of his created things.
19 So-then my beloved brethren, let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath. 20 For the wrath of man is not working out the righteousness of God. 21 Hence, having placed away from yourselves all filthiness and the abundance of malice, accept the implanted word in meekness, which is able to save your souls.
22 But become doers of the word and not hearers only, deluding yourselves. 23 Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he resembles a man considering his face (which was his from birth) in a mirror. 24 For he has considered himself, and has gone away and immediately forgot what sort of man he was. 25 But he who has peered into the complete law, the law of freedom, and has remained in it, this one, having not become a forgetful hearer, but a doer of works, this one will be fortunate in his doing.
26 If anyone among you thinks himself to be outwardly religious, though he does not bridle his tongue but deceiving his heart; this one’s religion is futile. 27 A clean and undefiled religion with our God and Father is this: to {F} visit {F} the orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

Que nul, quand il est tenté, ne dise: Je suis tenté par Dieu; -car Dieu ne peut être tenté par le mal, et lui ne tente personne. 14 Mais chacun est tenté, étant attiré et amorcé par sa propre convoitise; 15 puis la convoitise, ayant conçu, enfante le péché; et le péché, étant consommé, produit la mort. 16 Ne vous égarez pas, mes frères bien-aimés: 17 tout ce qui nous est donné de bon et tout don parfait descendent d'en haut, du Père des lumières, en qui il n'y a pas de variation ou d'ombre de changement. 18 De sa propre volonté, il nous a engendrés par la parole de la vérité, pour que nous soyons une sorte de prémices de ses créatures. 19
Ainsi, mes frères bien-aimés, que tout homme soit prompt à écouter, lent à parler, lent à la colère; 20 car la colère de l'homme n'accomplit pas la justice de Dieu. 21 C'est pourquoi, rejetant toute saleté et tout débordement de malice, recevez avec douceur la parole implantée, qui a la puissance de sauver vos âmes. 22 Mais mettez la parole en pratique, et ne l'écoutez pas seulement, vous séduisant vous-mêmes. 23 Car si quelqu'un écoute la parole et ne la met pas en pratique, il est semblable à un homme qui considère sa face naturelle dans un miroir; 24 car il s'est considéré lui-même et s'en est allé, et aussitôt il a oublié quel il était. 25 Mais celui qui aura regardé de près dans la loi parfaite, celle de la liberté, et qui aura persévéré, n'étant pas un auditeur oublieux, mais un faiseur d'oeuvre, celui-là sera bienheureux dans son faire. 26 Si quelqu'un pense être religieux et qu'il ne tienne pas sa langue en bride, mais séduise son coeur, le service religieux de cet homme est vain. 27 Le service religieux pur et sans tache devant Dieu le Père, est celui ci: de visiter les orphelins et les veuves dans leur affliction, de se conserver pur du monde.
