He was also a man of illustrious birth, among the people of the east. 4 Now his sons had a custom of meeting at each others houses, and making an entertainment, each on his day, taking along with them their three sisters to eat and drink with them. 5 And soon as the days of the entertainment were over, Job sent for, and purified them early the next morning, and offered sacrifices for them according to their numbers; a young bull for a sin offering for each of them; for Job said, Perhaps my children have in their mind conceived evil before God. In this manner therefore Job acted after every of those days. 6 And it came to pass that on the same day, when lo! the angels of God came to present themselves before the Lord, Satan also came with them; 7 and the Lord said to Satan, Whence comest thou? And Satan in reply said to the Lord, Having gone round the earth, and roved the whole of it under heaven, I am come here. 8 And the Lord said to him, Hast thou harboured in thy mind any thing against my servant Job? For there is not like him on the earth, a man unblameable, true, pious, abstaining from every thing evil.

Leeser(i) 1 There was a man in the land of ‘Uz, Job was his name; And this man was perfect and upright, and fearing God, and eschewing evil. 2 And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters. 3 And his cattle consisted of seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-asses, and he had a very great store of servants: so that this man was greater than all the sons of the east. 4 And his sons used to go and prepare a feast in the house of every one on his day; and they sent and invited their three sisters to eat and to drink with them. 5 And it happened, when the days of the feast were gone round, that Job sent and sanctified them, and he then rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt-offerings according to the number of all of them; for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and have renounced God in their heart. In this manner used Job to do all the time. 6 Now it happened on a certain day, when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, that the Accuser also came in the midst of them. 7 Then said the Lord unto the Accuser, Whence comest thou? And the Accuser answered the Lord, and said, From roaming over the earth, and from wandering through it. 8 Then said the Lord unto the Accuser, Hast thou directed thy attention toward my servant Job; for there is none like him on the earth, a man perfect and upright, who feareth God, and escheweth evil?
YLT(i) 1 A man there hath been in the land of Uz—Job his name—and that man hath been perfect and upright—both fearing God, and turning aside from evil. 2 And there are borne to him seven sons and three daughters, 3 and his substance is seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred pairs of oxen, and five hundred she-asses, and a service very abundant; and that man is greater than any of the sons of the east.
4 And his sons have gone and made a banquet—the house of each in his day—and have sent and called to their three sisters to eat and to drink with them; 5 and it cometh to pass, when they have gone round the days of the banquet, that Job doth send and sanctify them, and hath risen early in the morning, and caused to ascend burnt-offerings—the number of them all—for Job said, `Perhaps my sons have sinned, yet blessed God in their heart.' Thus doth Job all the days.
6 And the day is, that sons of God come in to station themselves by Jehovah, and there doth come also the Adversary in their midst. 7 And Jehovah saith unto the Adversary, `Whence comest thou?' And the Adversary answereth Jehovah and saith, `From going to and fro in the land, and from walking up and down on it.' 8 And Jehovah saith unto the Adversary, `Hast thou set thy heart against My servant Job because there is none like him in the land, a man perfect and upright, fearing God, and turning aside from evil?'
JuliaSmith(i) 1 A man as in the land of Uz, Job his name; and that man was blameless and upright, and fearing God, and departing from evil. 2 And seven sons and three daughters will be born to him. 3 And his possession will be seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred pair of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and service exceedingly much; and that man shall be great above all the sons of the east. 4 And his sons went and made a drinking in the house, a man his day; and they sent and called for their three sisters to eat and drink with them. 5 And it will be that the days of drinking went round, and Job will send and consecrate them, and he rose early in the morning and brought up burnt-offerings for the number of them all: for Job said, Perhaps my sons sinned, and blessed God in their hearts. Thus did Job all the days. 6 And the day will be and the sons of God will come to stand before God, and also the adversary will come in the midst of them. 7 And Jehovah will say to the adversary, From whence wilt thou come? And the adversary will answer Jehovah, and say, From running to and fro in the earth, and from walking about in it. 8 And Jehovah will say to the adversary, Didst thou set thy heart to my servant Job? for none like him in the earth; a man blameless and upright, fearing God and departing from evil.

Thus and thus, was Job wont to do all the days.

CAB(i) 1 There was a certain man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was true, blameless, righteous, and godly, abstaining from everything evil. 2 And he had seven sons and three daughters. 3 And his substance consisted of seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys in the pastures, and a very great household, and he had a great husbandry on the earth; and that man was most noble of the men of the east. 4 And his sons, visiting one another, prepared a banquet every day, taking with them also their three sisters to eat and drink with them. 5 And when the days of the banquet were completed, Job sent and purified them, having risen up in the morning, and offered sacrifices for them, according to their number, and one calf for a sin offering for their souls; for Job said, Lest perhaps my sons have thought evil, and cursed God in their minds. NSB(i) 1 A man named Job lived in Uz. He was a man of integrity! He was decent, he respected God, and he stayed away from evil. 2 He had seven sons and three daughters. 3 He owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, one thousand head of cattle, and five hundred donkeys. He also had a large number of servants. In fact he was the greatest (richest) of all the Orientals in the East! 4 Job's sons used to take turns giving a feast. They invited many others to come, and they always invited their three sisters to join them. 5 The morning after each feast, Job would get up early to offer sacrifices for each of his children in order to purify them. He always did this because he thought that one of them might have sinned by insulting God unintentionally. 6 The day came when heavenly beings appeared before Jehovah (YHWH). Satan was there among them. 7 Jehovah asked him: »What have you been doing?« Satan answered: »I have been walking here and there and roaming around the earth.« 8 »Did you notice my servant Job?« Jehovah asked. »There is no one on earth as faithful and good as he is. He respects me and is careful not to do anything evil.«
ISV(i) 1 Job’s FaithfulnessThere once was a man in the land of Uz named Job. The man was blameless as well as upright. He feared God and kept away from evil. 2 Seven sons and three daughters had been born to him. 3 His livestock included 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 teams of oxen, 500 female donkeys, and many servants. Indeed, the man’s stature greatly exceeded that of many people who lived in the East. 4 His sons used to travel to each other’s houses in turn on a regular schedule and hold festivals, inviting their three sisters to celebrate with them.
5 When their time of feasting had concluded, Job would rise early in the morning to send for them and consecrate them to God. He would offer a burnt offering for each one, because Job thought, “Perhaps my children sinned by cursing God in their hearts.” Job did this time and again.
6 Satan’s First Attack on JobOne day, divine beings presented themselves to the LORD, and Satan accompanied them. 7 The LORD asked Satan, “Where have you come from?”
In response, Satan answered the LORD, “From wandering all over the earth and walking back and forth throughout it.”
8 Then the LORD asked Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one like him on earth. The man is blameless as well as upright. He fears God and keeps away from evil.”

7 Zoti i tha Satanait: "Nga vjen?".

- "Evo prođoh zemljom i obiđoh je", odgovori on. 8 Nato će Jahve: "Nisi li zapazio slugu moga Joba? Njemu na zemlji nema ravna. Čovjek je to neporočan i pravedan, boji se Boga i kloni zla!"

Posílávali také, a zvávali své tři sestry, aby jedly a pily s nimi. 5 A když vypořádali dny hodů, posílával Job, a posvěcoval jich, a vstávaje ráno, obětoval zápaly podlé počtu všech jich.

7 E l’Eterno disse a Satana: "Donde vieni?"

Lithuanian(i) 1 Uco krašte gyveno vyras, vardu Jobas.
7 Tedy rzekł Pan do szatana: Skąd idziesz?
7 O Senhor perguntou a Satanás: Donde vens?
